Job Description
The Director of Behavioral Health has overall responsibility for developing, planning, coordinating, and implementing behavioral health programs and the delivery of behavioral health services to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and quality for the George Washington University Hospital (GWUH). The Director will engage in outreach to the community, develop business relationships, and ensure physician engagement. The Director will guarantee compliance with federal and local policy, laws and accreditation requirements governing behavioral health services in an acute care setting. The Director will be responsible for strategic planning, budget and resource oversight, staff recruitment/management and quality assurance of the service line. The Director is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of current programs and will be tasked with implementing and expanding services and programming to meet the needs of behavioral health patients at the GWUH.
Education/ Qualification
Masters Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field with at least five (5) years experience working with mental health population, which preferable includes inpatient acute psychiatric treatment and emergency psychiatric services with adults. Minimum of five (5) years experience in the mental health field. At least 3-5 years of leadership experience
Must hold current license in the District of Columbia to practice independently (LICSW or License Clinical Psychologist)

Program development and evaluation skills
Strong assessment, mental health interviewing, and evaluation skills including mental status examination and alcohol/drug evaluation
knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities for inpatient psychiatric treatment and emergency psychiatry
Multiaxial DSM diagnosis
knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission and DC Department of Mental Health regulatory and accreditation standards
knowledge and familiarity with public and private community mental health and chemical dependency treatment resources and financial reimbursement
