Director Engineering Software Vertical Rauland-Borg Mount Prospect

Job Description
The Engineering Director, Software Vertical is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the people, resources and processes required to deliver new products or upgrades to existing products. In addition to basic team management skills, the Vertical Manager will possess specific Hardware and Software expertise.



Accountabilities
Team Management – Identify the skills and resources needed for current and future development projects. Recruit appropriate staff to fill project needs. Ensure appropriate skill development among existing team members. Guide, coach and mentor team members. In collaboration with Platform Managers, monitor and evaluate staff performance. Mentor individuals in their career growth. Identify, engage, manage and evaluate outside consulting resources.
Team Resources – Ensure that team members are appropriately equipped for high performance. Ensure provision of hardware, software, etc. required to perform their job. Ensure provision of appropriate training in the use of development tools.
Team Assignments – In close collaboration with Platform Manager and Project Manager, assign appropriate staff to projects. Assign Architects to projects; assign developers to Architects.
Development Strategies – Maintain understanding of the state of the art in development processes and tools. Evaluate and assess prospective productivity tools for team members. Establish development standards and processes for delivery of high quality products. Establish and enforce the use of Best Practices. Ensure appropriate Design Review activities occur.
General Administration – Ensure appropriate reporting of activities takes place. Process administrative items as required (e.g. Vacation & leave requests, job descriptions).

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Computer Engineering or BSEE
Minimum 15 years’ total experience
Minimum 5 years leading a software development team. Working knowledge of C, C++, C# and Microsoft SQL
Must be completely English language proficient
Working knowledge of Agile Software Development. Working knowledge of Object Oriented Development.
Experience in hiring software developers and managing large software development teams.
Excellent people skills.
Technical and Management experience required.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Masters or PhD of Computer Engineering
Managing remote software developers
Experience with Software Verification/Validation tools a plus
