Senior Director - Industrial Design - Dell - Austin

Job Description
Responsible for the design and development activities associated with Industrial Design (ID) concepts and specifications for a global market

through executive engagement that optimizes the end user experience as it relates to function, aesthetics, value, ergonomics, Design language and trends. Contributes and drives design strategy, through analysis, documentation and validation of ID concepts.
Ensures final designs align with corporate strategy, marketing requirements, quality, business goals, product specifications and manufacturing standards. Coordinates, manages and drives vendor / ODM commitments and business deliverables.

Principal Responsibilities

• Delivers “best in class” product design solutions that are part of a larger strategy and understands their impact in the context of the Dell

brand.

• Maintains a global end-user perspective in all product concepts.

• Remains current on international design trends, including CMF, form, user interaction.

• Constantly aware of and current on the competitive landscape of products in assigned category.

• Responsible for decision making based on corporate business strategy.

• Constantly pushing the envelope and expanding the imagination of cross functional counterparts with innovative product concepts.

• Placing proposals in the context of a user scenario and environment to illustrate the benefits and facilitate effective decision making when communicating ideas.

• Clearly understands organizational structure and how it affects decision making.

• Clearly communicates POR to organization.

• Proactively engages cross functional team members to secure early buy-in of ideas.

Job Level

Individual Contributor

• Undergraduate degree and 10+ years relevant industrial design experience

• 10+ years of proven design leadership experience (serving as the lead designer and creative director for a product line or family)

• 8+ years of high-tech or consumer electronics design experience

• 5+ years of strategic design planning and execution for product lines or families of products (such as design language planning)

• Mastery of CAD and Rendering software, Pro/E and Keyshot preferred
