Senior Director - Development - University of Miami - Miami


Job description
The Sr. Development Director, Annual Giving and is responsible for aggressively facilitating the funding priorities of the University of Miami. This position will be primarily responsible for soliciting and closing gifts of $1,000 to $50,000 by enhancing relationships with new and existing alumni donors in assigned geographic areas across the country. The Development Director, Annual Giving position is an integral part of the Annual Fund team and University Advancement Division.

Responsibilities

• Solicit leadership gifts to meet institutional needs with the express goal of generating gift opportunities in the $1,000 to $50,000 range. Produce timely and appropriate donor communications that fulfills cultivation, solicitation and stewardship objectives and goals.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive operational plan, which includes measurable performance goals including revenue, donor visits and gifts, set together with the Sr. Development Director, Annual Giving based upon funding priorities and best practice strategies of all significant activity during the fiscal year.
• Develop and maintain an active donor prospect pool, with a goal of successfully engaging continuously at least 150 active regional donors throughout the fiscal year. Input all donor contact data into the Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.
• Develop extensive knowledge of University of Miami history, including past and present funding priorities of schools, colleges and programs.
• Identify funding sources from new alumni leadership prospects. Develop comprehensive moves management plans that involves development officers and other advancement staff, deans, faculty and volunteers as appropriate.
• Create, maintain and update as necessary a detailed travel calendar that includes objectives, strategies and segmentations. Required to make an average of one solicitation visit per working day or approximately 20 solicitation visits per month in pursuit of this responsibility.
• Develop concurrent strategy of cultivating and soliciting young alumni for gifts of under $1,000 incorporating Leadership Giving’s Protégé program, including non-donors.
• Recruit alumni to serve as volunteers for various volunteer positions across the University, including alumni association, school/college and programs. Assist alumni volunteers in engaging, identifying, rating, cultivating and (if applicable) soliciting donors on behalf of the University.
• Assist the school/college and programs and the alumni engagement team in appropriate regional alumni outreach efforts.
• Ensure Raiser’s Edge is updated as required with biographic and prospect management information including all cultivation and solicitation moves and contact reports.
• Manage expenditures and budget for this position, ensuring cost effectiveness within assigned budget.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business/Marketing, Communications or related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of proven success in personal solicitation fundraising, preferably in higher education. Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered.
• Ability to confidently persuade a broad spectrum of constituents, stakeholders and business leaders. Demonstrated success in creative fundraising strategies targeting individual donors; ability to establish beneficial, symbiotic relationships with alumni and other constituents which achieves overall university goals and objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities, excellent negotiation skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
• Ability to strive for excellence, both independently and as part of a team. Exhibits personal accountability and performs duties in a responsible manner. Embraces diversity and consistently demonstrates values associated with integrity and compassion.
• Must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours a week with extreme flexibility and significant travel as required. Will require attendance at evening and weekend activities supporting the mission of the University and the Office of University Advancement. Will often act as host to guests of the University during special events.
• Proficient knowledge of fundraising software, Microsoft Excel and Word and demonstrated working knowledge of the philanthropic aspects of tax law preferred.
