Job description
Our team is looking for a Director of Security Services to lead engineering, operations, and product management teams for an innovative set of customer facing security services. This includes customer requirements gathering, prioritization of the roadmap, defining and implementing success metrics, coordinating information across AWS service teams, collaborating with technology partners, and evangelizing these services with our customer community.

At Amazon, we hire hands-on managers at all levels. This leader must be able to dive deep into the details on business, operations and engineering. We need technical, detail-oriented leaders who can build and grow organizations and other leaders. We’re also looking for someone who shares our belief that through a combination of innovation, smart engineering, and scale we can achieve simple & highly reliable security services that remove friction for our customers.

In addition to a strong understanding of security technologies and ideally some experience with distributed systems, you’ll need a number of other qualities to be successful in this role. You’ll need to excel at hiring and developing security focused software development managers and engineers. You'll need to lead and understand the operational challenges associated with managing a fleet of distributed systems that are heavily automated and interact with operational systems. You’ll need to manage at scale by implementing mechanisms that allow your team to deliver, excel, and execute beyond your immediate line of sight. You'll be a leader in working with customers and partners with associated features related to security controls and integration.

In AWS, our leaders have a lot of ownership and autonomy so they need to be right a lot. You will have to be obsessed with delivering the most customer-centric experience for security services on the planet. Finally, you’ll need to be able to invent and simplify which is what we do every day on Amazon service teams. At AWS, we’re reinventing technology infrastructure in the cloud. We need leaders that are able to look at problems in new ways, inventing simple solutions to complex problems.

15+ years of industry experience
· 10+ years of managing a team
· 7+ years of managing managers
· 5+ years of managing organizations larger than 50 people while still remaining hands-on
· 5+ years directly (not dotted line) managing engineering or 1 other job family (operations, product management)
· Security fundamentals
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (related field) or equivalent work experience
· Minimum of 10 years of software development experience in a combination of any of the following languages: Java, C++, C#, Python or Ruby
· Minimum of 5 years working with the linux operating system
· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· A person who thrives and succeeds in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift fast
· Deep experience with security tools such as intrusion detection, log analysis and network scanning.
· Strong knowledge of web, security, and networking protocols
· P&L level ownership and launch of security services
· Deep knowledge of and proven development on AWS
· Breadth of experience working with cloud technologies and security controls.
· Proficient in design and analysis of algorithms and data structures.
· Strong understanding of object-oriented design and implementation experience
· Experience with web-based applications and/or web services-based applications at massive scale
· Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science
