Job description
Amazon is seeking an experienced, self-motivated and entrepreneurial Strategic Business Development Leader to identify, develop, and execute on sales and business development strategies in the Consumables vertical. This senior leader will direct a team of Sales and Account Management executives to deliver increased value to Amazon customers by expanding the scope and scale of current Consumables categories and identify new business growth opportunities presented by selection expansion, innovation on product delivery models, and a purpose-driven customer experience.
The Consumables vertical on Amazon today comprises high-growth categories including Health & Personal Care (incl. Nutritional Supplements and Sexual Wellness) , Luxury Beauty, Grocery, and Baby . Vital to the strategic growth and continued acceleration of Amazon.com, these categories are critical drivers of customers’ annual spend with Amazon and are central to a host of innovations regarding delivery of perishable merchandise, subscription-based purchasing of non-perishables, and hyper-local delivery mechanisms.
The senior leader in this role will be expected to develop deep product knowledge and coordinate across multiple Amazon product and sales teams to deliver compelling value propositions to target businesses that will bring incremental brands and inventory depth across all subcategories in Consumables. Scope includes direct and indirect management of critical success inputs including marketing to Prime customers via Fulfillment by Amazon and on-site traffic-driving via Sponsored Product Advertising. As a vertical thought leader, this individual will understand and leverage all available growth drivers and will indirectly manage contributions to the business from Global selling channels and adjacent Seller programs including Payments and Advertising.
Working closely with the Retail and International teams to determine top targets and brands, this leader will use high judgment and strategic Sales and Marketing skills to attract consumables Sellers and drive their success on Amazon. As the thought leader for Consumables within our Marketplace business, he/she will have a thorough point of view on the business end-to-end and will own strategic planning and the creation of operating plans, as well as weekly/monthly/quarterly business reviews.
The Key Strategic Objectives For This Role Include
Develop a 3-year vision for the Seller Business in Consumables categories (including Health & Personal Care, Luxury Beauty, Grocery, and Baby).
Hire and develop a world-class sales team, focused by seller segment and tier, to recruit and develop selection most desired by the Amazon customer.
Innovate on behalf of the Seller to improve the listing and onboarding experience at scale, to drive success post-launch, and invent merchandising tools to drive selection discovery and conversion
Bundle and package seller offerings to create solutions for different seller segments, to attract top brands and drive seller success.
Ensuring the right goals, metrics, training and development opportunities are in place for the team will be a priority during the first 12 months of the role as will the need to deliver exceptional results.
Partner with Product, Legal, Tax, Seller Performance, and Seller Support departments on fees, product quality, reporting, and compliance
Drive Seller success as measured by adoption, year-over-year growth and profitability
Plan and conduct periodic business reviews with Amazon Executive Leadership
10+ years of experience with a blend of sales, technical, business and product and/or program management roles
8+ years of experience hiring and leading multi-layered sales organizations
5+ years of experience in the Consumables industry, including CPG, Beauty, Grocery, and/or Health & Personal Care; preferably for a brand (or multiple brands)
5+ years of experience managing Seller/Brand facing teams; experience and success negotiating at the highest level with the F500 brands
Master’s degree
Track record of delivering results for large, cross-functional, projects, preferably within an e-commerce environment
Experience launching and selling software or online products
Business and technical experience including experience driving operations in an ecommerce business with emphasis on metrics
Demonstrated ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems. In particular, identifying customer (buying and selling) needs and inventing new ways to meet those needs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
