Director - Communications - WebMD - New York


Job description
This role is responsible for leading communications on behalf of Medscape, the leading source of clinical news, health information and point-of-care tools for healthcare professionals, as well as for WebMD Health Services, a leading provider of wellness and transparency services for employers, health plans and government organizations. The primary objective of this role is to help elevate awareness, preference and engagement with Medscape’s and WebMD Health Services’ content, products and services, and to protect, enhance and manage the company’s brand identity and reputation.


In addition to promoting a greater understanding of Medscape and WebMD Health Services, this individual will be responsible for the creation of a thought leadership platform to elevate WebMD’s role within the healthcare ecosystem, as well as the growing impact of technology on healthcare professionals, employers and employees. This individual will build and maintain relationships with print, broadcast and digital outlets, as well as key industry influencers and coordinate professional-facing social media efforts. Additionally, this role will serve as the key information resource and spokesperson for external inquiries from press, industry analysts, etc. regarding WebMD’s professional businesses. The role will report to the Vice President of Corporate Communications.

Responsibilities
Develop comprehensive, strategic communication plans, including clear narratives with supporting messages that can be leveraged across traditional and social media, tradeshows and events, speakerships, and employee-facing activities
Provide proactive, thoughtful and sound counsel to internal stakeholders; manage issues in a timely and highly-effective manner; and respond to inquiries in timely fashion
Manage and direct PR agency to implement the communications plans – on budget
Working with marketing colleagues and other internal stakeholders (e.g. Editorial, Sales, Investor Relations), expand the use of social, video, and influencer communications within the PR mix
Develop and manage relationships with in-house experts and industry influencers that can support specialty- or subject-matter focused thought leadership campaigns
Collaborate with product and marketing colleagues in support of product launches, thought leadership campaigns and industry events
Identify and cultivate a bench of Medscape and WebMD Health Services leaders that can be leveraged for external speaking opportunities to reach healthcare professional and employer audiences
Provide required support for trade shows, investor, customer and employee meetings
Promote healthcare professional- and employer-facing programming and content, including expert opinion pieces, newsmaker interviews, timely news regarding specialty and non-clinical issues, conference coverage and key insights.
Manage relationships with employer and healthcare trade media, as well as with health, science and workplace writers and broadcasters.
Minimum 10 years of communications/public relations experience for professional, scientific, or media enterprises; physician-oriented or healthcare PR experience a plus
Excellent verbal, writing and presentation skills
Experience managing contractors and PR firms, as well as budget responsibility
Experience creating and leading the implementation of a communication plans using various channels (social, print, video, events)
Experience working with executive leadership and provided media and speech support
Have set up relevant tracking methodology
Support Employee Communications, Marketing Communications and Investor Relations as necessary
