Director - Technical - Energy - Siemens - Crystal City
Job description
Siemens Government Technologies (SGT) is seeking a Technical Director - Energy who will be responsible for establishing and maintaining energy engineering excellence by setting standards, energy engineering methods and procedures, measurement and verification standards, overseeing Siemens business units energy engineering (consult, review and approve). The Technical Director – Energy will perform and oversee technical activities required to successfully identify, scope and solicit energy efficiency, distributed energy and other design build projects for customers, primarily in the Federal space.
Projects will include a wide range of technical activities including; energy data analysis, energy audits and engineering studies, comprehensive energy analysis including building energy modeling, conceptual engineering design, forensic engineering evaluations of existing infrastructure and system/building commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director Performance Contracting, Project Developers, Energy Engineers and a cross-business unit team to develop comprehensive, turnkey energy solutions for our customers.
In general, for a broad range of energy projects, the Technical Director - Energy will provide technical leadership in preparing and reviewing energy assessments (e.g., preliminary assessments and investment grade audits). Reviews will ensure the technical viability of proposed energy conservation measures and energy saving capital projects to generate the anticipated energy and process improvements. This will include at minimum review of baseline conditions/calculations, ECM savings calculations and scopes, M&V approach/plans, capital cost estimates, operating parameters, engineering drawings and project submittals.
Responsibilities:
• Report to and assist Director Performance Contracting in setting technical standards, methods and procedures, encouraging advanced technologies, training Siemens business unit energy engineers.
• Manage and supervise direct report Energy Engineers.
• Review and support development of proposals and Investment Grade Audits; including energy models, energy savings calculations, energy escalations, basis of design, ECM cost build-up, markups, measurement & verification, commissioning, long term O&M scope of work and costs, and training plans.
• Work with team to identify client infrastructure needs and goals to help qualify energy efficiency project opportunities.
• Investigate baseline conditions, conduct audits (including existing equipment and operating parameters), and attend commissioning and acceptance testing.
• Collaborate with multi-business unit/multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure reviews and recommendations are completed to professional standards.
• Review and comment on Commissioning Reports, initial Verification Reports and other construction Close-Out documentation, annual M&V Reports
• Provide assistance/insight/guidance to Energy Engineer and Project Developer regarding planned approach and deal structuring in the execution of an ESPC Project.
• Conduct walk-through audits of large commercial/industrial/institutional facilities to identify energy conservation opportunities, recommend steps to investigate and implement the opportunities, and provide written reports of findings.
• Keep abreast of technology trends and changes in this rapidly evolving market.
• Interact with senior-level facilities personnel as required.
• Support commissioning and acceptance testing as required.
• Develop information requests from the customer to support project development activities and functions.
• Assess, communicate and uncover technical project risks with the proposed projects.
• Prepare/support development of the basis of design, scopes, cost estimates and final proposals reports (investment grade audits).
• Develop/enhance processes and tools to perform and support energy analysis.
• Coordinate with the Project Developer to conduct comprehensive energy and water audits of a wide range of facility types.
• Identify and develop cost savings opportunities and capital upgrades relating to the full range of building systems (e.g., lighting, mechanical and electrical systems, and building envelope) and process improvements (e.g., manufacturing, purchasing, etc.).
• Assist in all stages of the development process through technical presentations of the proposed projects.
• Provide technical oversight, quality assurance/control reviews of other Siemens business unit engineering work.
• Develop/enhance processes & tools for project development, implementation and performance period
Qualifications include:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering discipline
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of energy engineering experience that includes knowledge of power plants, combined heat and power, HVAC systems, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable practices for buildings and industrial manufacturing operations
• Experience in energy engineering and project management with strong technical knowledge of energy efficiency practices and programs
• Experience performing building energy modelling (e.g., DOE-2, eQUEST, EnergyPlus)
• Excellent communication, verbal and written skills
• Must be willing to travel as required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Auto Cad read/review
• PE and CEM are preferred
• Energy Industry knowledge in developing energy conservation or management projects such as Cogeneration, Renewable energy technologies, Demand Side Management, Supply Side Management and HVAC energy reduction projects
• Specific experience with building energy systems and controls, including commissioning of HVAC, Central Utilities and Electrical Systems
• Experience in energy auditing
• Prior HVAC, Electrical or EMCS design experience is a plus
• Experience with US Federal Energy Savings Performance Contracts is a plus
