Director - Desktop Engineering - First Republic Bank - San Francisco
Job description
The Director of Desktop Engineering manages the life cycle of end-user systems for the enterprise. End-user systems include, but aren’t limited to, personal computers, mobile devices, peripherals, voice and video devices, remote and wireless access and the associated operating systems and applications. Develops information technology projects and provides strategic management and objectives for the department.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Provides management of all aspects of Workplace Technology, including strategy development, tactical planning, team development, technical design, product evaluation and project and program management.
Ensures that all phases of the end-user system life cycle, including deployment, upgrade and retirement as well as escalated production issues, are properly coordinated, monitored, tracked and resolved.
Partner with End User Services to understand internal customer trends, including requests and concerns. Ensure swift and complete resolution of issues escalated from EUS.
Partner with infrastructure teams and others in Information Services to ensure interoperability, compatibility and high availability of Client Systems Engineering solutions
Ensure the successful conclusion of Client Systems Engineering programs and projects.
Manage in-house and outsource resources to deliver high-quality work product.
Partner with technology vendors to understand current and future workplace technologies as well as explore how our existing technologies can be better exploited and integrated.
Create and maintain workplace hardware and software standards for the company.
Define and enforce a workplace technology life cycle to minimize future technical debt.
Partner with Vendor Management to optimize spending with workplace technology vendors.
Provide regular updates on Workplace Technology initiatives to Information Services via appropriate communication channels.
Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence
Perform duties and responsibilities specific to department functions and activities.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by supervisor.
Responsibilities also include:
1) Adhering to and complying with all applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to Anti-Money Laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.) 2) Adhering to Bank policies and procedures 3) Completing required training 4) Identifying and reporting potential suspicious activity to the BSA/AML Officer 5) Knowing and verifying the identity of any customer(s) that enters into a relationship with the Bank

Desired Skills and Experience
KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with all levels of business employees to understand business needs, educate them about potential and underutilized technology.
Ability to operate in a fast paced environment, assimilating large amounts of information quickly, and developing strategies and products with a minimal amount of oversight.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience). At least 7 years of experience related to design and implementation of end-user systems that support enterprise-class companies.
Ability to understand systems from all levels, from the “big picture” enterprise-level to the low level, technical view.
Deep understanding of end-user technologies, such as client operating systems (Windows, IOS, Google Android, Unix and Linux), virtualization (both client and application), office productivity applications and suites, Unified Communications,
Experience leading technical projects, including planning, documentation, and implementation.
Solid understanding information security principles and techniques.
Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Solid understanding of infrastructure technologies such as servers, SANS, LANs, WANs, MANs, mobile devices, VM/VDI, VOIP, messaging and associated standards and protocols.
Excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Thorough understanding of ITIL/ITSM processes, procedures and framework.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions; understand the meanings of words and respond effectively; and perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly.
Vision must be sufficient to read data reports, manuals and computer screens.
Hearing must be sufficient to understand a conversation at a normal volume, including telephone calls and in person.
Speech must be coherent to clearly convey or exchange information, including the giving and receiving of assignments and/or directions.
Position involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Must be able to travel as position requires.
May be required to lift 25-50lbs.
