Job description
Overview of The Department: Global Shared Services and Utilities is a team within the CTO organization, focused on developing capabilities and solutions that enable multiple other applications and experiences. This team leads the development of capabilities like personalization, content management and tracking for AmericanExpress.com.
Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will play a leadership role in defining the partner integrations strategy for the Shared Services ecosystem – iCM, Personalization and Commerce platforms and enable the utilities to be consumed more optimally with engineering velocity in mind.
This role will work closely with the existing Shared Services and Web Frameworks team to develop integration solutions with other internal and external systems with a focus on developing best of breed SDKs and UXs utilizing the core platform APIs. The role requires hands on development skills along with the ability to convey concepts to a wide audience of stakeholders with varying technology backgrounds. Responsibilities: Lead a team of cross discipline engineers focused on the development, testing, and deployment of new API features Lead long term technical strategy for the core utility platforms Work closely with the technical project managers and product leads to clarify and assess requirements and provide delivery estimates Evaluate and recommend new and emerging products and technologies Focus on constant improvement of people, process, and technology to remove barriers to fast, nimble, and high quality delivery Drive disciplines such as continuous integration, automated testing, and deployment systems Coordinate support and operations of services delivered with the utilities operations team Coordinate across functions to align engineering deliverables to business needs Define and drive improvement of product quality metrics Help Develop and execute a migration of existing towards service oriented architecture Own SDK standards and versioning/deprecation policies Work with product and support in creating a developer portal, documentation, and developer support programs Create a work culture/environment that attracts great engineering talent

Desired Skills and Experience
Required Skills/Qualifications: Qualifications • 5+years of experience in architecture, infrastructure, applications, systems design and integration • 5+ years of experience in large data management and data processing expertise, especially performance • Strategy development and strong technical leadership experience • 5+ years experience in large scale web system design and performance • Proven track record to lead problem analysis and resolution • Ability to communicate complex technical topics and facilitate discussions with business and technology peers • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills • Hands on expertise in performance optimization of distributed systems • Deep knowledge of design patterns and anti patterns • Hands on in at least one of the following apart from Java; JavaScript (Node.Js, IO.js) C/C++, Objective C, Ruby, Perl or Python • Advanced Degree in a STEM subject preferred
