POSITION SUMMARY:
AMETEK Aerospace and Defense is seeking a strong Engineering Director with a proven track record of success in the Aerospace and Defense industry to join us in Miami, FL. The individual in this position will direct, set goals, institute operational policies, and coordinates activities of engineering department including design, manufacture, maintenance of quality standards and specifications, testing of components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
•Directs department activities and develops policies to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and overall product quality associated with manufacturing and testing.
•Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
•Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
•Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demands for new and existing products.
•Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
•Responsible for continually improving processes involving new product introduction and engineering support for existing products. This includes but is not limited to introducing state of the art development methods to the designers, introducing automation into the processes where appropriate, PMA/DER development to meet business forecast, cross-training designers and recruiting new developers.
•Provides technical leadership and direction to operations in the assembly, test and manufacture of components for aerospace and industrial products.
•Assists senior management in the development of the strategic plan as it relates to operational improvements.
•Directs the resources as appropriate in the development of tooling, equipment, software, hardware and procedures to support new and existing developments.
•Identifies, evaluates, makes recommendations and prepares appropriate capital request paperwork in the acquisition of capital equipment.
•Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
•Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
•Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.
•Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
•Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
•Project Management - Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities.
•Interpersonal - Focuses on solving conflict, not blaming; Maintains confidentiality; Listens to others without interrupting; Keeps emotions under control; Remains open to others' ideas and tries new things. EDUCATION:
•Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree required; Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA preferred
Experience
•Related work experience shall be a minimum of 10 years with at least 5 to 7 years of management role over engineering department within an MRO company.
•Experience with the policies and procedures of the following regulatory agencies; FAA, EASA, and DOT, relative to Aircraft Fire Suppression and Safety Systems including Oxygen and Stored Energy Systems.
•Experience in pneumatics or hydraulic systems will be considered.
•PMA/DER development
•Proven team player who has demonstrated capabilities in the following areas: excellent communication, presentation, leadership and interpersonal skills, well developed problem-solving skills; solid organizational skills; and the demonstrated ability to be self-directed and effectively relate to all levels of an organization
•Looking for a hands-on individual with the ability to see the big picture
•Ability to work well under pressure, multi task and meet deadlines
•Demonstrated ability to set goals and objectives to meet Business Unit expectations
•Computer skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Hyperion Enterprise and Oracle experience a plus
