Role Overview
Corporate Actions forms part of Investment Operations at BlackRock. Responsible for providing accurate & timely corporate action services to BlackRock’s investment teams and stakeholders. Supporting corporate activity through the event life cycle, applying BLK’s standards of best practice combined with a diligent focus on risk management and control. Corporate Actions operates as an integrated, global entity with a framework designed around a robust and mature “pass-the-book” philosophy facilitating effective & controlled, transition of workload between regions.

The Global Corporate Actions team consist approximately 80 people across multiple locations with four core operating centers in Edinburgh, Wilmington, Singapore and Gurgaon. The Investment Operations team is 340+ people covering Trade Operations, Corporate Actions, Derivative Operations and Securities Lending Operations.

The candidate will work closely with the Global Head of Corporate Actions and Heads of Investment Operations and will be part of the global senior management team responsible for the implementation of Corporate Action strategy and oversight of operational processes. In addition to senior management responsibilities this role will have specific responsibilities around security lending support, strategic counterparty relationships, operating metrics, oversight of technology enhancements, risk and control environment and resulting action plans as defined by the Corporate Action and Investment Operations management team.

The role includes management and coordination of BlackRock’s strategic operational agenda and to ensure appropriate engagement with all Business Operations teams. The candidate will maintain awareness of any operational issues that persist, leverage senior level relationships to gain appropriate resolution and will also provide transparency to the Aladdin Portfolio Services and Investment Operations Executive management team of progress against BlackRock’s strategic priorities, general performance against key metrics and general Counterparty relationship engagement.

These activities will be completed in accordance with BlackRock’s global best practices and through the application of internal controls, operational processes and procedures as notified by the firm. The candidate will ensure that their Manager is notified of all material service issues/risk items on a timely basis and work to resolve these as a matter of priority while continually maintaining an effective working relationship with fellow team members, other BlackRock departments, custodian banks and third party service providers.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate with the Corporate Action Management team in accordance with BlackRock’s global best practices through the application of controls, operational processes and procedures.
Ensure counterparty alignment with BlackRock global operations footprint and process
Participate in the design and implementation of Corporate Actions strategy
Drive the delivery of the Corporate Actions strategic initiatives with Technology and internal parties
Participate in regional and global initiatives
Ensure appropriate statistics are development and distributed to monitor the performance, KPI’s, KRI’s etc.
Communicate with global team managers and facilitate the global team structure.
Contribute to senior management meetings and the overall strategic direction of the investment operations function.
Ensure robust Business Continuity Plans are in place and kept up to date as part of strategic implementations
Ensure Global Corporate Actions operate to the highest standards of risk mitigation
Continue to develop automation and efficiency initiatives to provide a scalable platform
Keep pace with industry initiatives and ensure BlackRock developments are in line
Co-ordinate internal and external Audit obligations on behalf of global corporate actions

The candidate will ensure that they are fully trained in the functions they are required to perform, identifying for their Manager any outstanding training requirements while maintaining on an ongoing basis competence for the responsibilities assigned.
Maintain threshold competence in Corporate Actions core competencies
Maintain competence for role through ongoing participation in BlackRock training initiatives.
Achieve and maintain understanding of all financial instruments
Participate in Blackrock annual review process and draft goals/objectives for your development in conjunction with your Manager.
Maintain full knowledge of Blackrock corporate policies, procedures and guidelines

Desired Skills and Experience
Skills and Qualifications:
Significant experience in managing and leading Investment Operations or middle office teams in a global or cross regional capacity
Significant experience in support of securities lending
Change management experience, e.g. implementing complex regulatory requirements and large functional or platform migrations
Experience of working in a client facing environment would be desirable
Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of investment products, particularly corporate actions
Demonstrable experience developing and leading high performing teams
Demonstrated ability to influence others, with or without technical knowledge
Risk aware and responsive
Strong relationship management skills
Exceptional written & verbal communication skills
