Director - Digital Media - MEC - San Francisco


Job description
In this position …
You’ll be responsible for all day-to-day digital operations on an account. You’ll provide strategic direction and leadership within the digital group to deliver the most effective and innovative communications plans, and manage the career paths of supporting digital staff.

You will be responsible for:
Plan Development and Maintenance
Formulate digital strategy for client businesses and ensure that recommendations and decisions are consistent with client’s objectives and strategies
Assume lead role in integration of client’s media efforts and demonstrate full understanding of client’s businesses as basis for all future work
Demonstrate understanding of 3rd party research methodology and how data can be used to shape client conversations
Evaluate / approve recommendations and presentations before sending to client
Actively promote MECs ambition and values to all media partners by establishing strong relationships with key media owners

Present innovative, business building digital recommendations
Assume ultimate responsibility for all implemented programs
Enforce key investment tenets around KPI's
Review accounts to ensure that they are operating profitably and efficiently
Assist with the update of department revenue and staffing charts
Investigate all new opportunities from a broad perspective to determine appropriateness and soundness of idea or company
Manage MEC’s digital planning and implementation resources (and partner agencies where applicable) to deliver quality and timely programs & buys
Continually seek innovative and breakthrough ideas, approaches and solutions
Keep up to date with emerging digital trading platforms, identifying those with benefit, scaling the opportunity and helping advise on implementation

Team Management and Leadership
Lead Associate(s), Sr. Associate(s) and/or Manager(s) in setting brand strategies and developing media plans
Delegate work effectively to not only teach direct reports, but also deliver seamless client work
Support partnerships between Associate(s), Sr. Associate(s) and/or Manager(s)
Train Manager(s) in media and marketing disciplines as well as the specifics of the Client’s business and industry
Encourage and support staff attendance in various media training programs
Manage group dynamics between Associate(s), Sr. Associate(s) and/or Manager(s)
Accurately, objectively and constructively evaluate performance of Associate(s), Sr. Associate(s) and/or Manager(s) via talent development process
Foster an environment which encourages intelligent risk taking, innovation and creativity
Advise and direct planning staff regarding insightful and strategic points-of-view
Monitor quality control on daily workflow
Keep abreast of current events, media trends and any target market industry trends that impact client business
Get involved in financial aspects of the account budget, staffing, projections, etc.
Assist in networking, interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, developing, and evaluating team members
Strong recommendation of completion of WPP business classes, including: Strategy, Working Across Cultures, Marketing, Business Acumen, and Growing and Winning Business
Demonstrate a desire to create improvement and better outcomes through innovation / approaching things in new ways
Think of new solutions to your work / client challenges

Account Management
Advise on all Communications matters that fall within scope of agency assignment
Coordinate the work of MEC disciplines, industry groups and media partners; assist with integration of other client and MEC agencies
Maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external contacts
Manage worldwide planning resources in the U.S. and abroad, where applicable
Provide strategic direction to regional offices and/or partners, where applicable
Act with high integrity while maintaining and encouraging an open environment for media partners and suppliers
Exhibit ambition by participation in Agency / departmental task forces, project work and new business
Oversee negotiation of media contracts and programs/opportunities to ensure maximum leverage is applied

Desired Skills and Experience
7-10 years of related media/communications planning experience, with focus on team leadership and management
Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in advertising, marketing, business administration, and/or communications preferred
Possess and demonstrate excellent understanding of media fundamentals, including media math, target audience development, and communication goals
Demonstrate strong proficiency with systems/tools
Excellent quantitative skills, including analytical abilities and math proficiency
Demonstrate sharp strategic thinking and effective problem solving skills
Ability to work within and effectively manage a team, decisively organizing multiple assignments for both self and team direct reports
Adherence to tight deadlines while delivering flawless work
Extremely business-minded and detail-oriented, with clear and proven organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Show ability in training and leadership capability
Consistently act as Leader as defined via ONE MEC’s Leadership attributes
Appropriately and openly participate in team, agency, and industry initiatives
Demonstrate genuine curiosity and interest in our clients & their business
Digitally savvy, with specific proficiency at MS Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
