Director - Communications - DeVry University - Chicago
Job description
This position is responsible for all DeVry University internal and external communications, including public relations, student, colleague, alumni and faculty communications. Also responsible for crisis management.
Desired Skills and Experience
Create and lead a communications plan with unified, proactive messaging across all key constituents.
Develop a comprehensive communications plan that will ensure DeVry University has a steady stream of opportunities to communicate with its faculty, staff, employees, students and alumni.
Ensure programs and activities enhance long and short-term communications programs; develops and maintains quality standards for all publications and executive communications.
Develop and implement public relations strategies for DeVry University, which align with the strategic direction and the marketing objectives; and serves as the primary contact with the media and other external and internal audiences.
Partner with the Marketing team to develop and execute cross-functional strategic public relations plans for new programs and locations, brand campaigns, marketing events, etc.
Identify trends and new developments that will impact DeVry University’s strategic communications plan and success.
Oversee the development of an ongoing, multi-year employee-engaging platform tied to DeVry University’s larger Cause/ DWBDG initiatives.
Plan all executive communications from the University president and leadership team.
Manages communications budget and all related agency/vendor relationships.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communication or related field; a Master’s degree in communication preferred
Minimum 15 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, strategic planning, branding or related field in highly regulated industries
Executive presence
Dynamic verbal communication skills
Impeccable writing skills
Passion for story telling
Comfortable being in the spotlight, working with executives 10+ years’ experience leading the PR function at a corporate level
Understanding of and experience using social media, industry analysts and other influencers to increase awareness and credibility
