Director - Business Architecture & Solutions - VMware - Palo Alto


Job description
The Field Automation and Services Team (FAST) as part of the Customer Operations organization, partners with each of the Customer Operations teams – including Sales, Marketing, Renewals, Customer Advocacy, Operations, Order Management, Business Practices, and Global Support to identify their technology needs and collaborate with IT to deliver business optimization and automation solutions aligned to the overall company strategy and objectives.

The “Director – Business Architecture & Solutions” role will be responsible for planning, building, managing, leading creation, utilization and adoption of “business architecture and capability management” concepts within VMware to translate and rationalize strategic and operational objectives into automation & optimization initiatives across various business functions within the Customer Operations teams. The position reporting to Sr. Director, Process Automation & Solutions will have the following primary focus, objective and responsibility to:

* Build and manage a team of talented business and technology savvy enterprise business architects, business process/solution architects to identify process/productivity improvement opportunities


* Engage, collaborate and partner with senior executives and business stakeholders across multiple business functions to understand strategic & tactical business objectives, facilitate solution formulation, drive value realization and business benefits

* Identify / define process optimization and automation initiatives across the Customer Operations organization maintaining integrity, continuity and scalability of business operations

* Establish and drive architecture led planning for business automation, enterprise process optimization project/initiative portfolio to maximize revenue generation/cost saving potential Customer Operation organization

Essential Functions (Tasks and Responsibilities):

A. Stakeholder Management & Business Engagement

* Engage, collaborate with stakeholders (senior level business executives) across Sales (Direct, Channel, Overlays etc.), Professional Services, Marketing, Global Support Services, Technical Services, Channels & Alliances, Global Support Services, Renewals, Customer Advocacy, Order Management and Strategy & Enablement business functions

* Interact and partner with business leaders to drive large scale business transformation, process change and innovation in support of our strategic objectives and operating plans that will impact growth, customer satisfaction, productivity and operational excellence

* Collaborate with cross functional business units (as identified above) to drive end-to-end business, operational and technology capability, process consistency, maturity & effectiveness

* Engage with the business leaders and teams to facilitate, drive and influence a business transformational change to transition from Oracle to SAP for the ERP platform.

B. Subject Matter Expertise & Business Process Optimization and Solution Delivery through Business Architecture and Capability Management Framework

* Lead and provide guidance and direction to build, manage, enhance business capability model along maturity / optimization framework to drive enablement of the longer term roadmap

* Work closely with stakeholders from various lines of business to develop architecture blueprints and realistic roadmaps

* Analyze current architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvement such as enhancing business processes, expanding capacity, reducing time & cost, and increasing overall effectiveness

* Advocate and drive adoption of “best practices” to ensure standardization across business functions within Customer Operations organization in processes and automation solutions

* Drive effective business case definition, articulation of cost/benefit investment decision making for initiatives

* Create and maintain systems / solutions roadmap for Customer Operations organization that reflects six, twelve and twenty four month improvements that are in aligned with the business objectives and capability maturity model

* Drive operational and scalability improvements to overall automation capabilities and enterprise architecture across multiple business applications and functions

* Ensure delivery and implementation of capabilities to drive realization of business benefits

* Partner with and provide architectural leadership to SAP Solutions Architects to deliver thoughtful IT solutions in alignment to the core business drivers

* Set and influences SAP strategic direction. Demonstrate the ability to translate business needs into business capabilities and understand short-term and long-term goals

C. Collaboration and Team Management

* Interact, consult and partner with FAST leadership team and other functional leaders within FAST to ensure successful delivery of projects and business solutions as well as optimal performance of the team

* Collaborate with business customers, business process architect and IT technical team to drive process optimization, solution architecture, scalability, optimization and automation for the Global Customers Operations team

* Build, manage, lead and motivate an A+ team of senior Business Architects, Business Analysts, Process Architects who are technology savvy, business process/solution experts and possess excellent problem solving skills

* Optimize utilization of global team members in executing projects and delivering solutions

* Create and drive team development (skills, knowledge, engagement etc.) to improve the maturity of the team

Qualifications & Experience:

* Strategic and innovative thinker with experience in managing senior executive and stakeholder relationship and expectations across different business functions

* 15+ years of experience of implementation and management of business automation solutions along with direct team management, leadership and mentoring

* 10+ years of hands-on SAP experience in business architecture, business automation solutions and implementation

* Broad SAP experience - SAP ERP/ECC, SAP BO/BW, SAP HANA, Business Objects, SAP NetWeaver etc.

* Wide-breadth of CRM, PRM and ERP experiences and expertise in re-engineering, designing and implementing automation, optimization solutions in a high-tech software vendor selling products & services (perpetual and subscription) through channel

* Experience with industry standard business architecture framework like TOGAF, BOST (ProAct), Zachmann, Gartner etc. to drive business optimization / maturity / scalability efforts is a plus

* Proven leader with demonstrated expertise in devising and implementing streamlined business processes and strategic technology solutions to improve efficiency, automation, and productivity while reducing costs and growing revenue

* Demonstrated track record of leading within complex organizations requiring strong influence management skills - ability to work cooperatively at all levels in matrix environment

* Strong written and verbal communication skills with capability to facilitate strategic business strategy, capability and architecture conversations with all stakeholders

* Self-starter who thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced business environment

* Excellent management, organizational and planning skills
