The Synergy Organization is proud to announce that we have been retained by a Medical Center in Traverse City, MI to conduct the nationwide search for their Executive Director of Laboratory Services. This 391 bed, non-profit teaching hospital serves as northern Michigan’s regional referral center, and is the largest of the eight system hospitals located throughout northern Michigan.

This dynamic new Director of Laboratory Services will have the opportunity to work with some of the most caring and talented people in health care today, while overseeing a busy and rapidly expanding laboratory utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic instrumentation and technologies to deliver timely, cost-effective and accurate results. This new leader will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and receive assistance, direction and consultation from the hospital’s team of pathologists. The Director will enjoy many opportunities to work closely with hospital administration in the planning, operations and expansion of laboratory services and will have broad managerial responsibility for planning, coordination and control of all component sections of the laboratory.
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will be a graduate of a recognized School of Medical Technology and currently registered as a Medical Technologist; MT(ASCP) or CLS. A Bachelors degree is required (Masters preferred) along with five years working experience as a medical technologist, demonstrated proficiency in major areas of a clinical laboratory and a minimum of two years’ experience in the management of clinical laboratory of an acute care hospital.
This new Director will enjoy serving as a mentor, leader and expert resource for the Medical Center, and will possess a keen understanding of information systems relative to inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory network laboratory processes and conductivity. Experience in creating business plans and budgeting is required along with a strong knowledge of regulatory requirements laboratory accreditation standards (preferably CLIA, CAP, and AABB) and a thorough knowledge of laboratory safety requirements and procedures. Prior experiences as a safety officer and with managing multiple locations is desirable.
