Development Director - Riot Games - Los Angeles


Job description
As Development Director, you’ll lead the implementation and guide the application of effective game development work systems and processes to help nurture and grow the products, processes, and teams around you. You’ll partner with product and project leads to foster an open, transparent development environment that keeps stakeholders in the loop through proactive reporting and effective cross-team chat that facilitates alignment throughout Riot.



You will:
Manage and mentor a large group of autonomous and highly aligned development teams, partnering with discipline leads to ensure consistent alignment around the development approach
Identify and aggregate key software development performance metrics to accelerate the development operation across the board, as well as diagnose and drive improvement initiatives and practices across multiple teams and product groups
Regularly assess the development team´s maturity, health and composition, relentlessly strive for cohesion gains across the board
Use JIRA, agile methodologies, and Confluence to establish software and game development schedules
Create transparency and predictability via portfolio and strategic planning, multi-team release planning, burn-downs, value stream maps and release summary reports
Define a mission statement, strategies, best practices and KPIs for the development management department

Desired Skills and Experience
You are:
Educated and experienced: you’ve earned at least your bachelor’s or you can make a strong case with your long tenure in the field; you’ve helmed game development endeavors for years and have a proven track record managing large scale teams, from hiring to mentoring to budgets
An agile team member: you have extensive experience working with teams in agile environments as a Producer, Project Manager, Scrum Master or Development Manager; you hold true to agile principles while reliably delivering value to your organization and players
A dev guru: you’re fluent in—and an avid advocate of—development best practices, including Scrum, Kanban and Lean Product Management; you’re comfortable teaching individual concepts as well as leading by example
Systems-oriented: you take a holistic systems thinking view of the product development lifecycle and adapt processes accordingly
A motivational mentor: you keep teams focused on results, growth, and actionable feedback; you’re emotionally attuned to others and are open about your own feelings, which helps you resolve conflicts quickly, comfortably, and respectfully
Detail-oriented: you look at projects under a microscope, methodically dissecting their DNA to ensure that no detail has been overlooked; you communicate your findings precisely and efficiently, with zero room for misunderstandings
Self-motivated: you meet challenges with gusto, taking initiative to assume responsibilities and writing the instruction manual where none exists; impossible is your favorite kind of possible
A gamer: your passion for videogames is what drove you to the industry; you love games and take play seriously, and that helps you build player-focused development environments
