Executive Director - Financial Compliance - Time Warner - New York


Job description

Position Summary:
Reporting to the V.P. & Assistant Controller, the individual’s primary responsibilities will be to oversee the Time Warner Financial Compliance (SOX) program to ensure the Company maintains an effective system of internal controls over financial reporting and is fully compliant with all Sarbanes-Oxley regulatory requirements. This will involve the managing and reporting on the Enterprise-Wide Financial Compliance program; including the monitoring and reporting of company-wide activities while collaborating with Divisional Financial Compliance leaders in the day-to-day execution of financial compliance program. In addition, this individual will be responsible for leading strategy efforts to ensure Time Warner’s SOX program maintains its “best practice” approach into the future.

DUTIES/OBJECTIVES:
Managing the overall Financial Compliance reporting program with particular focus on the quarterly review of divisional SOX certification submissions, including an assessment of the effectiveness of the system of internal controls over financial reporting and a determination of the disclosure requirements related to any significant deficiencies, material weakness or material changes in internal control over financial reporting.
Review with senior management the evaluation procedures undertaken in evaluating control deficiencies and assist process owners in the design of remediation efforts.
Understand the underlying risk assessment process and internal control testing procedures employed by the divisions to ensure controls are working as intended and business process documentation is current and compliant with the guidance issued by Time Warner.
Develop complete and comprehensive financial guidance methods and procedures to ensure the successful execution of the Time Warner Financial Compliance program, both at Corporate and Divisions.
Consolidate divisional submissions and report to senior management on a variety of SOX metrics; including key controls, deficiencies, remediation status, system implementations and any other pertinent observations that would impact an effective enterprise-wide system of internal control over financial reporting.
Coordinate with Divisional Financial Compliance leadership, external auditors and internal auditors in the implementation of Time Warner’s system of internal control procedures and monitoring practices.
Lead an evaluation on the selection, recommendation and implementation of a financial compliance software application. Build consensus with divisional compliance teams on control identification, methodology, monitoring and reporting within the selected SOX application.
Working with Division SOX Leadership coordinate, plan and schedule annual site visits. Collaboratively identify what processes will be the focus of the scheduled visits. Document any observations and report to senior management on next steps as appropriate.

Desired Skills and Experience
EXPERIENCE:
10+ years of public and/or private accounting and auditing experience required. Big Four Public Accounting and/or Internal Auditing experience preferred.
Experience managing and overseeing a Financial Compliance function is required.
Sound working knowledge of COSO integrated framework of internal controls, generally accepted auditing standards, and accounting principles is required. Experience with evaluating and implementing the 2013 COSO framework is preferred. Knowledge of IT controls desired.
Strong financial and internal control background is required.
Proven project management experience with demonstrated "leadership" characteristics a must; including the ability to manage and influence a team outside direct reporting lines.
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while working within both pre-determined and accelerated timetables.
Experience in the successful selection and implementation of a Financial Compliance software application is desired.

SKILLS:
Excellent communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of Corporate and Divisional management.
Effective writing skills and proven ability in the delivery of executive management correspondence.
Progressive thinker, strong analytical, organizational and time management skills.

EDUCATION:
B.S. / B.A., Accounting or equivalent required.
CPA is required; MBA desired.
