Director - Story Development - Abbott - Chicago
Job description
The Director, Story Development functions as an internal reporter, building relationships across the company to identify the human stories that tell the tale of Abbott, its people and the many ways we fulfill our mission of improving lives. After identifying these stories, the director then works with External and Internal Communications and other communicators to determine the best ways to tell these stories to various audiences through multiple media.
Core Job Responsibilities
The Director, Story Development:
Devises storytelling strategies, e.g. desired categories/types of stories to identify/tell.
Builds relationships across the company to understand what we’re doing, who’s who, what and where the best stories are, and what they mean to the company and the people we serve.
Uncovers, investigates, and reports those stories.
Works with communications colleagues to tell them in the most effective ways to target audiences.
Helps PA build storytelling capability through both organizational and content strategies.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
At least initially, the Director will be a high-level individual contributor.
Position Accountability/Scope
The Director must have the ability to work effectively with people across national, cultural and organizational boundaries, and at all levels of the organization. Must be an outgoing and self-starting person who can meet and engage people easily. Must have prior media experience and be a skilled and experienced reporter/communicator who knows how to identify, investigate and tell stories well. Must be able to travel, perhaps extensively.
