Corporate Communications Director - BlackRock - New York


Job description
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications – Americas, this individual will be responsible for the firm’s corporate affairs – managing and providing communications counsel on a wide range of issues, including: corporate brand positioning, regulatory, legal and reputational risks, corporate financial reporting and executive leadership matters.
In addition, this individual will be responsible for supporting the strategy and day-to-day execution of high-impact, fully integrated media programs that reach external audiences on behalf of BlackRock’s institutional business. With more than $2 trillion in total assets under management, BlackRock’s institutional business spans nearly every asset class, investment style, product offering, geography and client type.
This Director will work closely with senior business managers, executives and communications colleagues across BlackRock to build and execute communications programs that define and articulate the corporate and institutional business strategies and objectives while furthering the firm’s reputation among this important client base. These programs will seek to advance brand identity, broaden understanding of BlackRock’s business strategy and expand awareness and appreciation for BlackRock’s capabilities and thought leadership initiatives.
Programs to support BlackRock and its institutional client business priorities will vary but generally this individual will be expected to create comprehensive and compelling press materials (e.g. news releases, research, strategic messaging and talking points, Q&As etc.), be responsible for media training and media support to executives, supervise relevant media tracking and overall program measurement.

Additional Responsibilities
Proactively work with senior executives to promote industry-leading initiatives, position products and areas of expertise, and increase the overall positive industry awareness for the company.
Increase internal and external understanding of the company’s strategic business objectives, operating strategy and ongoing achievements.
Partner closely with colleagues in global marketing to ensure alignment of all marketing, public relations and ongoing communications efforts.
This individual will further the positive external image and reputation of the company through effective communication to key external audiences, primarily the media and industry influencers, but also clients, prospects, consultants, distributors and BlackRock, Inc. shareholders. The individual will also serve as a company spokesperson; develop strong relationships with members of the press (trades and business; primarily in the United States) to ensure fair and accurate coverage of BlackRock.

Desired Skills and Experience
More than ten years of strategic communications/PR experience; institutional investment knowledge a plus; PR agency and/or media experience beneficial; strong foundational knowledge of financial services industry and understanding of financial services news media.
Strategic and creative thinker able to design actionable, measurable programs which align with and advance business objectives.
Ability to translate key strategic business or financial issues into messaging that resonates with media, influencers, clients and prospects.
Proven strategic and problem solving ability: can identify source of problem, impact of problem as it relates to other functions, impact on stakeholders, options for resolution, etc.
Confident in his/her ability to provide strategic counsel to senior executives on high-profile communications issues.
Able to think and act quickly, analytically and creatively to accommodate dynamic business environment. Individual will need to balance multiple projects and deadlines, and be comfortable with unforeseen media requests and demands.
Excellent external relationship building skills.
Demonstrated ability to design/execute ideas: plan, develop, communicate, track and measure.
Highly collaborative individual.
Experience in serving as a media spokesperson.
Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills, as well as an ability to influence and/or build consensus.
