Position Objectives

Assignment Focus: The Director of Finance and Colleague Services is responsible for leading, managing and overseeing all operations of accounting and human resources for the company.

Role: Through a respectful, constructive and energetic style, guided by the values and objectives of company, the Director of Finance and Colleague Services manages and maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures necessary to ensure that the company has finances in place to effectively sustain and grow the business. The success of this position will be fueled by a “can do” attitude that allows the company to “get to yes” and chart the path “how” on its initiatives in an informed and strategic manner. Out of the box thinking and an innovative mindset are paramount in how this role will work in tandem with the organization’s needs and goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

Provides day-to-day leadership and financial leadership and management that mirrors the purpose, adopted mission and core values of the company. Bottom Line: Build a Best Ever Company.
Responsible for leading the company to achieve and surpass profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives.
Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all financial transactions and processes internal and external; including and not limited to:
Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely and strategic manner
Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
Process payroll in a timely manner
Ensure that monthly bank reconciliations are completed for the company’s operating and escrow accounts
Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
Maintain the chart of accounts
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions


Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the financial operating condition of the company; including and not limited to:
Issue timely and complete monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, particularly in relation to sales, pipeline vitality, and operations.
Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
Measure the recommended benchmarks / calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
Provide for a system of management cost reports
Conduct cost/benefit analysis and subsequent recommendations
Assist with business case development for new or ongoing initiatives
Provide information and education to the Verus Advisory Team (VAT) as it relates to the company’s financial position in order to foster decision making
Analyze and provide “early” information to the CEO and COO regarding future company viability in conjunction with sales pipeline reports and expense reports.

Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment by assuring company compliance with the following, including and not limited to:
Coordinate the provision of information to external accountants / auditors
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Comply with local, state, federal, and international government reporting requirements and tax filings
Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes, alongside the VAT.
Represent the firm with clients, vendors, investors, and business partners.
Perform basic human resource needs for the company such as recruiting, hiring, human resource management, benefits administration, performance management, compensation and wage structure, supporting diversity, classifying employees, employment laws, etc.

Collaborates with the CEO, COO and VAT to develop and implement plans for organizational projects including and not limited to:
Open Book Management; partnering with the Great Game of Business
The Verus Global Sales Process Model Growth Plan and Development Strategy
The Verus Global Comprehensive Compensation and Incentive Plan
Desired Skills and Experience
Skills Required: The controller candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 6+ years of progressively responsible experience for a small to mid-size company. Candidate should desire to be a vital contributor to an entrepreneurial environment. Experience and expertise including and not limited to:
Experience in hiring, human resource management, benefits administration, performance management, compensation and wage structure, supporting diversity, classifying employees, employment laws, etc.
Cash-flow report generation
Accounting systems assessment
Private accounting
Analytical reasoning
Budget analysis
Auditing methodology
Advanced computer proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook, CRM)
Financial statement analysis
Compliance testing knowledge
Account reconciliation expert
Bank reconciliations for multiple accounts
Closing journal entries for Month-end, Quarter-end, and Year-end
Balance sheet reconciliations
Risk assessment experience
Timely close and reporting to management
Payroll, including: Knowledge of Paylocity platform, Medical deductions, 401k deductions, Accrued paid time off, Incentive plans
1099-contract facilitators: Payment reconciliation, expense report processing, facilitator rate
Accounts receivables
Accounts payables
Human Resources
Technical Skills including: Advanced MS Excel skills, Proficient with PowerPoint, Word, & Outlook, Have a basic understanding of NetSuite, Have used the following GL software: MS Dynamics CRM, NetSuite
