Director - EC2 Virtual Platform Development - Amazon - Seattle

Elastic Compute Clould (EC2) is at the heart of Amazon Web Services. The instance types that we offer to our customers for their computation needs are virtual servers. We constantly adapt these platforms to the needs of our customers and to take advantage of new technologies. As Director EC Virtual Platform Development, you own the development of these platforms.

You have managed larger engineering teams before and have a solid understanding of Linux and virtualization technologies. As leader, you have a proven track record of delivering products and supporting your customers. You can motivate highly skilled individuals to perform at their best. You will own key parts of the software stack that is running on nearly every Amazon server worldwide.

Position Responsibilities:
Develop and qualify new EC2 instance types and Amazon Linux.
Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of EC2 products.
Recruit, develop, and lead a cross functional development, operations, and business team focused on our EC2 business.
Play a critical role in broad business planning, working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements.
Demonstrate high levels of creativity and good technical and business judgment.
Maintain a current understanding of industry and technology trends.
Contribute to Amazon’s Intellectual Property through patents and/or external publications.
MS or PhD in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
At least 10 years of industry experience.
Good understanding of Linux and hypervisors.
Previous experience in managing multiple development teams.
Previous experience as a software developer.
Strong customer focus and ability to invent and simplify.
Ability to balance long term development work with short term operational work.
Strong knowledge of operating system and hypervisor internals
Excellent communication skills
