About the Position
We are currently seeking a Vice President of Development who will work with the Founder and CEO, Scott Morgan, our President, and Executive Directors to build on our fundraising success and create a strong financial foundation for continued, rapid growth. The Vice President will lead a team responsible for Education Pioneers’ nationwide fundraising efforts including individual donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, institutional grant seeking, corporate partnerships, and donor communications; and he/she will support our local fundraising efforts. Additionally, the Vice President will oversee our development operations function, working closely with our finance team.
The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial professional with a strong track record of fundraising success, organizational leadership experience, a passion for the mission, and the ability to communicate Education Pioneers’ vision and impact to a diverse group of constituents. This is a full-time, exempt position and reports directly to the CEO, and will be based in or travel regularly to Oakland, CA.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to
Strategy Development
Create and implement a fundraising strategy to support Education Pioneers’ FY2015-19 Growth Plan
Support the CEO, Executive Directors and Board of Directors to develop tailored donor cultivation strategies
Partner with the Executive Team to align development goals and vision with overall organizational strategic plan and long-term goals
Fundraising, Donor Management, and Stakeholder Engagement
Manage key fundraising deliverables and performance measures for the organization, monitor results and provide the National Leadership Team and Board of Directors with regular updates
Manage a portfolio of 20+ donors and $3-5 million
Create and implement a major gifts program in order to significantly increase revenue from individuals
Partner with and guide the CEO, President and Executive Directors to manage and optimize their involvement in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors
With the CEO and Executive Directors, identify ways to increase meaningful engagement with our Local Advisory Boards
Evaluate the ROI of national and local fundraising events and make recommendations to the Executive Team
Development Operations and Analytics
Manage an effective, Salesforce based fundraising platform that supports significant growth
Oversee the grant contracting process and oversee a grants calendar consisting of more than 100 annual submissions and reports
Oversee all department activities related to ongoing day-to-day fundraising efforts including implementation of a donor relations and stewardship program; oversee gift processing, record keeping, and reporting
Analyze results, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven revenue projections
Manage the Development budget
Team Management and Organizational Leadership
Manage a team comprised of two-three national staff and consultants
Develop the capacity of the Development team and other staff responsible for fundraising across the organization
Work in concert with the CEO, the Board of Directors, and its Development Committee to deepen the Board's fundraising and evangelical role
Actively participate as a member of the National Leadership Team to define Education Pioneers’ strategic direction and ensure our sustainability as we scale

Desired Skills and Experience
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years fundraising experience, with minimum of five years in a senior development or sales leadership role
Prior success in a role reporting to a CEO or Board of Directors
Prior senior management experience in a rapidly scaling organization
Prior success in developing and implementing a multi-million dollar, multi-year fundraising strategy/campaign
Proven record of successful management of a million-dollar-plus national portfolio of major donors, foundation and corporate partners or equivalent experience in sales management
Demonstrated commitment to organizational development/talent development in prior roles
Demonstrated experience leveraging a technology platform to manage workflow and data and conduct complex, multi-year analysis; experience with Salesforce preferred
Ability to travel up to 40 % of the time
