Vice President - Health and Safety - Peabody Energy - St. Louis, Missouri
Job description
Summary:
In this globally impactful postion, you'll spearhead the development of a robust, global health and safety strategy for Peabody and support implementation of the necessary systems and processes to deliver the strategy across the platform. The role will work collaboratively with the business unit HS leaders and business unit executives to develop, implement and sustain the health and safety management systems and culture which achieves Peabody’s vision of incident-free workplaces and incorporates the CORESafety elements.
Principal Accountabilities:
Manage and coordinate the implementation and integration of Peabody’s CORESafety and Safety a Way of Life systems.
Develop, implement and maintain Peabody’s HS policies and standards in concert with operations safety professionals.
Collaborate with Peabody safety professionals to raise the overall Peabody safety performance and spread/adapt best practice across the global organization.
Develop internal and third party audit programs to assure full implementation of the health and safety management systems and requirements of CORESafety.
Coordinate and conduct global health and safety audits and report findings to executive management. Provide regular reporting on item resolution progress.
Coordinate and lead health and safety due diligence reviews for corporate business development projects as required.
Develop in conjunction with other Peabody enterprise risk management professionals a coordinated risk management program.
Ensure health and safety management systems are fully integrated into other company systems, e.g. operations, maintenance, development and planning, HR, purchasing, etc.
Oversee the implementation of a health and safety reporting system (SAP).
Conduct root cause analysis for serious incidents.
Oversee periodic safety culture surveys.
Develop an occupational health management system for Peabody.
Work with operations leadership to prioritize investment in technology, innovative solutions and resource allocation to enhance HS results and reduce risks.
Support the President and COO with the BOD HSSE Committee (agenda, module preparation, etc.)
Provide necessary support and act as key health and safety professional for the St. Louis corporate office.
Prepare consolidated safety metrics for Peabody and support necessary global reporting for various corporate social responsibility reports.
Coordinate regulatory issues and tracking.
Desired Skills and Experience
Job Requirements:
Exceptional organizational skills including oral and written communications are required.
Strong collaboration and influencing skills required for program design, development and implementation.
A minimum bachelor’s degree is required with a preference given to a health and safety or appropriate engineering discipline.
15 years or greater global experience in the health and safety field in a heavy industry environment. Strong preference for experience in the mining sector with multi-country exposure.
Significant knowledge of multi-country/region regulatory environments, safety and health issues and cultural factors effecting their adoption and adherence.
The job will require regular travel to regional offices and mine and sites, the ability to maneuver uneven lands, abrupt changes in elevations, extended periods outdoors and both hot and cold weather conditions. Periodic international travel, including remote locations, will be required.
Experience and proven ability in leading and influencing a global organization to achieve best-in-class health and safety performance. A strong Continuous Improvement orientation is required.
Proficient in root cause analysis, change management, risk assessment, occupational health and behavior based safety approaches.
