Director - Interactive Technology - Aisle Rocket Studios - Chicago

Job description
Aisle Rocket Studios (ARS) is looking for a Technology Director to join our award-winning agency. As the Director of Interactive Development, you will lead the team of web developers including front-end and back-end PHP programmers. You will have a key role as a manager and owner of hosting, infrastructure, enterprise architecture, data-intelligence, and large-scale project management.

You and your team will be fully responsible for architecting, developing, and delivering LAMP-based open-source solutions with a high standard of quality. You will share an equal responsibility with Account Managers to deliver these solutions on time and within the established scope of work, maintaining profitability for the agency, while strengthening the backbone of the agency, our satisfied clients. You will delegate work and responsibility to smaller teams within your group, challenging them to grow into future team leaders.

As a technology leader, you are the flag bearer for a culture of innovation and collaboration within the company. The foundation of this culture is based on core values like honesty, integrity, and respect for each other. The most important quality for our leaders, perhaps even more important than their domain expertise, is their ability to positively inspire people around them.

Desired Skills and Experience

RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze the client’s needs, ensuring that they fit with objectives and quality standards and can be delivered with the available resources and budget.
Oversee the technical development process and ensure that appropriate interfaces between the various teams involved exist.
Keep abreast of the latest developments in technology and e-commerce to deliver continuous improvement in our technical capabilities and contribute fresh ideas to our business strategy.
Provide assistance to account teams with the technical aspects of projects and proposals – including recommendations for changes to current systems based on technical developments.
Evaluate current IT infrastructure, identify technologies and initiate projects designed to improve security, scalability and reliability of the web-related products.
Develop both people and processes within the technical team to react to the changing nature of the business.

QUALIFICATIONS
Significant experience (5-10 years) in a technical leadership role, particularly in a web/digital agency environment
Hands-on coding experience with content management systems and ecommerce platforms
Experience working with open-source LAMP platforms, particularly PHP and mySQL, and with the use and/or creation of third party libraries and frameworks
Front-end Javascript, CSS and HTML experience
Experience architecting and delivering complex enterprise applications to multiple customers through multiple releases
Strong people management and communication skills – verbal and written – specifically an ability to write clear, concise proposals, reports and presentations
Self-motivated and analytical thinker; seeing solutions rather than obstacles
Experience defining and managing the scope of projects
Experience leading meetings, regular reporting, technical sales support and helping to produce budgets
Ability to lead, organize and execute with little or no direction, deliver commitments on time and within budget, and to work in a team within a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of project management tools and bug tracking (such as JIRA, Trac, Bugzilla, Wiki, etc.)
