Director - Energy Efficiency Implementation - NSTAR - Boston

Northeast Utilities is hiring 2 Directors of Energy Efficiency, Implementation due to continued growth. They will be based in Berlin, CT and Westwood, MA. Energy Efficiency is a major line-of-business at NU, overseeing an anticipated investment in 2014 alone of over $400 million. The NU EE team has delivered against the highest EE goals anywhere in the nation, and done so by redefining the approach to EE. We have invested in a robust Customer Engagement/Sales & Marketing approach coupled with strong Implementation and other support functions. The EE team is comprehensive consisting of Sales, Marketing, Implementation, Evaluation, Regulatory and Support. There is a good mix of individuals from outside and within the industry – all leading to a “can-do” culture.

The Director of Implementation will be a key architect in building the Company’s strong brand and industry reputation for providing unparalleled value to its customers. This role is responsible for leading the implementation of Energy Efficiency programs for commercial, industrial and residential electric and gas programs. Direct and lead the implementation team so that programs and services are delivered in a cost effective, customer centric and efficient manner while maximizing profitability of energy efficiency programs. Provide strategy and vision to inspire and drive creative and effective solutions and have an immediate impact in a high-growth, fast-paced, fluid, and entrepreneurial environment. Specific responsibilities include:
Directs all aspects of the Energy Efficiency implementation team including making decisions that impact the area’s staff, productivity, cost effectiveness and the department’s role within the corporation.
Works closely with the Energy Efficiency Sales and Marketing teams to develop and deploy effective go-to-market strategies that deliver on goals.
Integrates the department’s various short and long-range programs with department-wide objectives in order to meet corporate and/or regulatory requirements.
Directs the area’s project/program development and implementation, contract negotiations, settlements and dispute resolution, and multi-million dollar budget development and maintenance.
Communicates corporate and departmental expectations and motivates staff including morale building and culture development.
Partners and collaborates to develop networks, build alliances, engage in cross functional activities and find common ground with stakeholders.
Reports to executive level on all department-related matters.
Required Experience:
Technical Knowledge/Skill: Knowledge of residential and commercial/industrial building systems and industrial processes. Knowledge of overall corporate strategies and how they relate with energy efficiency programs. Proven ability to lead large teams and hire, train, mentor, and retain top talent. Change agent with solid business acumen, strategic perspective and customer orientation. Thorough understanding of the regulatory process and environment, including experience with the regulatory filing process.
Education: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business or related discipline. Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of twelve (12) years in energy efficiency programs or other technical/regulated programs or projects.
