Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY – Director of Information Technology
 
The organization has grown steadily and now plans to dramatically accelerate growth through increased organizational capabilities and by upgrading/leveraging technology. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer.  The Director of Information Technology’s role is to provide vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives. The Director of Information Technology directs the planning and implementation of enterprise IT systems in support of the Firm’s operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality, and Firm’s business development. This individual is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s information technology and systems.
 
THE KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
 
Participate in strategic and operational governance processes of the business organization as a member of the senior management team.
Lead IT strategic and operational planning.
Develop and maintain an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the Firm.
Establish IT departmental goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
Act as an advocate for the organization’s IT vision.
Identify opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and resources, including staffing, sourcing, purchasing, and in-house development.
Develop, track, and control the information technology annual operating and capital budgets.
Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
Coordinate and facilitate consultation with stakeholders to define the Firm and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
Direct development and execution of enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
Approve, prioritize, and control projects and the project portfolio as they relate to the selection, acquisition, development, and installation of major information systems.
Review hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts and pursue master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
Assess and make recommendations on the improvement or re-engineering of the IT organization.
Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, including government, vendors, and partner organizations.
Supervise recruitment, development, retention, and organization of all IT staff
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
 
Bachelor's degree from a 4 year college or university in computer science and a minimum of 10 years relevant experience managing and/or directing an IT operation; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master’s degree is a plus.
Participate in the development of technology strategies for enhancing an organization’s critical business processes.
Managed the budget for an information technology unit.
Substantial exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems, including email, data, off site retention.
Demonstrated understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities.
Proven experience in IT planning, organization, and development.
Demonstrate understanding of project management principles as related to IT projects. 
Proven leadership ability by assignments of increasing levels of authority with people, budgets and information technology environment Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously defined by individual system or process for managing tasks, objectives and/or projects.
Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated in information reports to executive level management.
Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by examples of techniques to build effective teams and relationships with key customers and senior management.
Strong negotiating skills based on the size and scope of contracts managed.
Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.
Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional service orientation demonstrated by approach taken to improving customer relationships.
Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
