Director, HR Business Partner Avery Dennison - Pasadena


Job Description

Function Overview: Avery Dennison’s Human Resources organization is rapidly evolving into a globally integrated function with standardized, industry-leading HR practices. Through this global service delivery model, HR teams (Business Partners, Field HR, HR Operations and Centers of Expertise) collaborate to support and drive results in each business and function.

Overview: HR Business Partners are key “brokers” and “integrators” of all aspects of HR service delivery and are aligned with business unit or functional leaders. They provide consultative expertise, and create and execute the HR strategy to drive business growth and functional excellence. This role focuses on HR strategy, finding solutions to people and business challenges, and executive partnership.

Responsibilities
• Create or provide input to HR strategy for business or function (client group).
• Execute HR strategy to meet specific business needs and objectives.
• Provide consultative support by directly interfacing with GVP (or Functional Leader) and Leadership team.
• Support the BU in executing business strategy; consult on strategic business issues
• Act as a thought partner on BU/Functional AOP, Strat Plan, LDR.
• Own a BU/Functional talent plan.
• Develop HR plan for achieving business strategy and prioritize activities based on business challenges and opportunities.
• Assume the role of project sponsor for select global HR initiatives.
• Partner with the COEs to identify needs, design solutions and implement solutions (COE takes the lead).
• Triage senior-level ER events and participate in very critical cases (e.g., senior leaders, highly visible).
• Conduct final interviews of Dir+ and/or for critical roles and contribute to selection decisions
• Support/assist with senior level on-boarding.
• Identify business or function specific reward and recognition programs; partner with C&B COE to design & implement.
• Provide input on offers for Dir+ and/or critical roles as needed.
• Provide senior-level coaching, performance feedback, and development in support of the efforts led by LD/OD COE.
• Drive and lead change throughout business/function (in partnership with LD/OD partner)
• Support a communication vision and strategy for people related activities.

Key Interactions
Work with CoE to:
• Provide specific insights to complex business issues and potential solutions that require HR design (e.g. programs, policies, etc.) changes.
• Provide insights into emerging business trends that will have an impact on HR strategy and design
• Tailor communications for business unit/geographic considerations
• Support global HR program/policy design and advocate agreed upon governance structure for HR

Work with HR Operations to:
• Obtain support with reporting/analytical tools to conduct relevant HR business analysis
• Resolve/monitor/manage Tier 3 issues requiring business partner support

Work with Field HR to:
• Understand emerging trends/insights gained through working with managers and specific site issues

Desired Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years business/HR experience. International exposure highly preferred.
• Knowledge of specific industry preferred.
• Thorough understanding of HR principles, practices, laws, human capital metrics and skilled in developing and implementing programs that support the strategic people plan.
• Excellent leadership, oral, written communication and presentation skills.
• Experience in strategic leadership and negotiation.
• Ability to influence others and champion new ideas/initiatives.
• Excellent organizational and people skills, project management skills, with an ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely, concise manner.
• Demonstrated success in cross-regional projects or initiatives.
• Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes and function specific software.
• Ability to successfully navigate within a matrix management environment.
