Director, Network Operations Flixster - San Francisco

Job Description

About The Job:

We're looking for a seasoned, strong leader for our small but growing systems and network operations team. While this is a management role, it is very much a hands-on position and you will be expected to get your hands dirty.

You will be responsible for all elements of our infrastructure – from managing our collocation facility up through all the networks and systems that run our products. You will be responsible for growing, managing, and mentoring the team of engineers (currently 2, growing to 4-5 over the next year) that builds these systems as well as provides 24x7 support.

This position reports to the CTO, but we are a flat, open organization that cares little about titles, and lots about getting stuff done.

Plan for the future of the site - identify needs, find solutions and then implement those solutions.
Input to architecture; driving improvements to performance, uptime and visibility. Participate in capacity planning and buildout strategies.
Hiring, training, mentoring the team.
Implement processes where they are necessary and abolish them where they are not.
Design and deploy systems that meet our application-specific needs.
Monitor and model system stability, performance, and throughput.
Implementation and maintenance of all networking hardware, application and database servers.
Harden internal and external networks, setup failover, capacity and load management strategies with rest of tech team.
Share in the 24x7 support needs for our systems.

About You:

Our ideal candidate is a dedicated, methodical, energetic, problem solver with an unfailing positive attitude and excellent managerial skills. You have been here before - growing and scaling an operations team in a similar environment.
10+ years administering Linux systems.
5+ years administering networks for a large scale web application.
5+ years managing operations teams.
Strong knowledge of networking protocols including TCP/IP and Ethernet.
Strong knowledge of Cisco and Foundry products.
Strong scripting ability for automation.
Experience with multiple data center deployments.
Highly organized and detail oriented
You function well in a fast-paced, informal environment where constant change is the norm and the bar for quality is set high.
Sense of humor and a positive attitude are non-negotiable.
