Clinical Labs Manager - Histocompatability -- UW Hospital & Clinics UW Health - Madison



Job Description

Under the direction of an Assistant Director, this position is responsible for the daily operations of the Histocompatability department. The Histocomp Clin Labs Manager serves as the Histocompatibility Lab liason to the Transplant Programs (solid organ and stem cell transplant) for clinical questions, interpretation of test results, and staff education relating to HLA. Serves as primary contact with transplant researchers (physicians, data managers, statisticians). Also, serves as primary contact between the Histocompatiblity Lab and the UW Organ Procurement Organization (OPO), agencies (ASHI), and United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

The incumbent manages a variety of staff, including clerical, phlebotomy and/or technical staff with educational backgrounds ranging from HS diplomas to graduate degrees. Responsibilities include personnel management, budget preparation, development & implementation of testing policies and procedures, overseeing teaching programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance to maintain accreditation. Additional responsibilities include review of results, consulting with medical staff and faculty, developing and overseeing a quality assurance plan, resolving patient/testing problems, and ensuring training and competency of all personnel.

Desired Skills & Experience

1. BS or BA required.
2. BS in a laboratory or biological science preferred.
3. Five (5) years of pertinent laboratory experience required, HLA and/or Histocomp experience preferred.
4. Two years experience in a leadership capacity required.
5. ASCP or equivalent certification or meet CLIA general supervisor minimum requirements required.
6. ASCP registered as MLS(MT), MLT, CT, SCT, HT, HTL, BB, SBB or certification appropriate for Clin Lab department(s) managed preferred.
7. Effective organizational, scheduling, planning, and communication skills.
