In Microsoft’s Unified Communications Group we develop next generation communication and collaboration experiences. The scope of work today is instant messaging, group based chat, online collaboration, phones and mobile device experiences. We are looking for a highly creative and visionary designer / manager to help define new user interface experiences across all these products As our the creative lead for the team (some would call this an experience architect) you will set the vision for and manage the design and writing team that develops the brand direction, creative vision, design principles and language, and core product and surrounding experiences that shape the look and feel for our user experience.
We are looking for an individual with exceptional visual design skills who can think blue sky and turn them into inspiring new ideas. You will play a lead role on the team defining anchor experiences, the end to end visual and sensorial design language, and the UX brand strategy. To be considered you must be capable of innovative thinking, and have a proven history of using design to uncover new ideas. You should be proficient at zooming from the thinking big picture to guiding the details. You should be an excellent communicator and presenter, and show experience applying user and trend research throughout
You should be able to illustrate how you have used these skills to drive design change and have impact within you career.
In this role you will need to apply strategic thinking to business goals to drive multiple design streams. Primary duties for you and your team include, driving visualization of new ideas, defining core product attributes, developing creative briefs, and concept prototyping. You will work with collaboratively with other designers, product planning, user research, and marketing on a regular basis.
Successful candidates will be able to balance multiple roles including: hands-on creative direction, team management and growth, oversight of outside vendors and contract designers. Managing and growing creative people is a big requirement of this job.
Skills
Primary qualifications:
8+ years of related UX software design experience in a product company or agency
5+ years UX Leadership and/or people management
An exceptional design portfolio demonstrating visual / UX ski/l, creativity and innovation and strategic thinking. You should have a passion for innovation using new technologies.
Ability to develop and articulate brand values into a design language and UX story
Ability to inspire, manage, grow and retain, a creative team
Outstanding design and problem solving skills. Must be able to work effectively at multiple levels, from creating clear design goals to guiding hands on design solutions.
Experience with any of the following are huge plusses: motion graphics, film, NUI, storytelling
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, HCI, or related field. A Master’s degree is a huge plus
