As a Director of Engineering at Databricks, you will be responsible for all engineering activity by your team. You will set the technical directions for the team, own the major feature deliverables, and hire great engineers. You will design engineering processes that ensure technical quality and consistent delivery of our service. You will also
Leverage internal data to drive strategic outcomes across product, engineering, customer success, sales, and other executive functions at Databricks.
Manage and build data engineering and data science teams, ensuring high technical standards and grooming world class technical talent.
Ensure technical infrastructure for ETL, data integration, and internal data access are best in class.
Work closely with internal stakeholders, e.g., product management and executives, collects requirements on internal data initiatives, and understand business needs and priorities.
Build internal data roadmap, manages execution on project plans, track progress and unblock engineers as needed.
Allocate resources and plan for capacity for short and long term deliverables.
Identifies and scopes long-term team goals and structure collaborating with the team, PM, engineering and executive leadership.
Hiring. Recruit and hire strong engineers in a competitive hiring climate. Attract engineers with expertise in Big Data technologies and database systems that fit into the Databricks culture. Work with leadership to set recruiting goals and priorities.
Technical leadership. Own the technical output of the team - ensure high technical standards by instituting process and culture.
Management. Directly manage engineers and tech leads. Assess performance of individual engineers and leads. Provide actionable feedback, guide promotions and leveling process. Grow engineers on the team with technical and career coaching.
Cross-functional execution. Coordinate within the organization alongside PM, marketing, support and sales to ensure delivery of key initiatives. Influence product strategy alongside the PM team.

Ability to communicate and coordinate strategic goals across multiple departments working with executive level stakeholders
Experience leading data science and engineering teams, including end-to-end ownership of data ingest, data organization, and delivery of data to internal consumers
Experience owning and evolving a complex technical project over a multi-year span. Understanding of roadmap planning and prioritization, managing technical debt, distributing work amongst engineers, and owning an agile development process.
