Android powers billions of active smartphones and tablets, as well as computing verticals such as TV, auto, wearables and IOT. Android’s UI pioneered many concepts which are now standard in the mobile industry such as interactive notifications, always-on-lock screens, on-screen navigation buttons/gestures and more. Android’s UI is heavily inspired by Material Design and continues to be an area of active development with an exciting roadmap of features anticipated over the coming years. Android’s System UI ships on both Google Pixel and via the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
You are a senior engineering director who will lead Android System UI for phones and tablets. You will cover all aspects of the operating system UI from lock screen to navigation to launcher to notifications. The System UI leader will oversee multiple tracks of innovation - both single-year and longer multi-year investments.

Responsibilities
Deliver on annual and multi-year development plans, helping pioneer new paradigms and concepts for mobile system UI.
Work closely with user experience and product management.
Work across the company with other groups such as the Google Search, Assistant, Play and others to build seamless user experiences.
Leverage the latest machine learning technologies in novel ways to deliver smart user interfaces that adapt to the user.
Grow and manage a team of engineers successfully.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
10 years of experience working on system UI/frameworks/toolkits/APIs for operating systems.
Experience working with user metrics/telemetry and applying machine intelligence.
Preferred qualifications:
BA/BS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.
Strong leadership skills; a history of recruiting and developing strong talent and managing global, geographically distributed teams.
Proven track record delivering beautiful, polished, innovative consumer UI.
Exceptional communication skills and proven ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external clients.
