Director Industry Technology Strategy Automotive Industry Microsoft Redmond

We’re looking for a passionate and driven business and technology leader to serve as the technology strategist for our worldwide automotive team in Microsoft’s Industry Group. The goal of the Director, Automotive Industry Technology Strategy is to shape market and client perception through thought leadership linking the automotive evolution with technical capabilities to drive customer digital transformation and enable new mobility services and ecosystems.
The ITS will work closely with other industry sales team members in the field to establish real world solutions and with technical counterparts across the Industry CTO organization, engineering product groups, partner groups and Services.



Primary Responsibilities:

• Grow share – The ITS will be responsible, along with Industry Solution Managers, for developing a 3-year strategy to grow Microsoft’s share across the automotive industry.

• Drive innovation – The ITS will be responsible for defining and developing technical architectures for automotive solutions spanning connected & autonomous vehicles, smart mobility ecosystems, and digital feedback loops to improve client busienss processes.

• Grow ecosystem – The ITS will initiate engagement in industry-wide initiatives and standards bodies, and grow the partner ecosystem in partnership with OCP (One Commercial Partner) to fill out the solution landscape across automotive, emerging mobility businesses, and extensions into adjacent sectors including public sector, insurance, retail, and utilities.

• Engage internal industry communities – The ITS is responsible to understand and drive the technical architecture aspects of the Microsoft priorities (Modern Workplace, Business Solutions & Processes, Data and AI, Apps and Infrastructure) working in partnership with priority specialists in the OCTO office, to inform automotive aligned communities and promote prioritized solutions within the industry accounts.

• Drive clarity – The ITS will be responsible for defining and maintaining auto industry reference models in partnership with the C+E and AI+R teams and other product and platform-focused teams across Worldwide Commercial Business (WCB) organizations.

• Accelerate adoption and consumption – The ITS will partner with Commercial Software Engineering (CSE) and Services to harvest automotive architecture documents from successful customer/partner engagements highlighting typical industry scenarios, relevant industry standards and other design constraints, enumerating key architecture components, and highlighting architecture variance and resultant tradeoff decisions.

• Represent Microsoft technology platforms – The ITS will be responsible for representing Microsoft at key industry events, Microsoft external events such as Microsoft Envision, and at the Executive Briefing Center for customers and partners.

• Pre-sales, Sales, Marketing – The ITS will partner with the ISM, account teams, and Marketing to land the business value of Microsoft priorities and technology portfolio at EBCs, key events, and executive client touch points strengthening Microsoft’s role as a trusted advisor in automotive.



Requirements (Education, key experiences, skills, and knowledge):

• 10+ years of development and architecture in the manufacturing or automotive industry (required)

• Established automotive industry experience, expertise, and credentials with customer line-of-business needs and deep industry solution technical expertise to be able to develop and support these solutions.

• Understanding of technology and solutions used in Connected Vehicle, Autonomous Vehicle, IoT, Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning, Data Management, Cloud Platform Services and LoB solutions such as PLM, CRM, SCM, MES and DMS.

• Strong understanding of the partner ecosystems (including Tier 1s, ISVs, SIs) related to automotive solutions and the ability to identify leading solution vendors or systems integrators with relevant repeatable solutions or domain practices.

• Strong industry domain expertise based on experience in business roles within an automotive enterprise or within a solutions vendor serving the automotive industry.

• Keen understanding of connected and autonomous vehicle solutions is preferred.

• Industry specialized development or consulting position within an independent solution vendor or systems integrator is a plus.

• Track record of driving business/product performance through influencing for impact and supporting strong cross-group and cross-cultural collaboration.

• Understand, and have experience with, the application of cloud-based technologies in a manufacturing environment
