Develop and execute global and US public relations programs in support of Oncology brands and pipeline products; includes cross-brand and disease awareness initiatives, as appropriate. Maintain a positive image for Novartis Oncology and its products through development and implementation of media/public relations activities that disseminate key messages to key stakeholders.

• Key components for success are the ability to:
• Provide product/communication counsel to brand management as well as drive crisis communications programs that protect brand and corporate reputation
• Interpret brand marketing plans into effective global public relations programs that drive business results aligned with brand strategy with measurable KPIs
• Facilitate development, approval and dissemination of press materials through complex approval system that include BU and Corporate components
• Work closely with and coordinate activities with country communicators, Pharma and Corporate Communications as well as Oncology Internal Communications, Media Relations, Patient Relations and Social and Digital Media
•Align strategy/messaging as appropriate with diverse internal and external audiences
Major Activities:
• Develop and implement strategic public relations/brand communications plans as an integral part of marketing planning
• Manage Oncology brand communications and news flow
• Manage PR agency
• Develop and oversee issue and crisis management including communication planning, readiness, and response capabilities for Novartis Oncology brands
Key interfaces include: Global and US Brand Team Leadership, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Brand Medical Teams, BU Leaders as needed, Oncology/Pharma country communicators, and Pharma/Corporate communications
Strategy/Market Focus: Understanding oncology market place, brands vs. competitors
Operational Excellence: Timeliness and quality of Communication publications and briefs
Communications support for quarterly financial reporting

Minimum requirements • Bachelors or Masters in Communications or English
• Scientific background &/or marketing experience highly desirable
Experience/Professional requirement:
• Extensive experience (10+ years) in communications positions, including high-level involvement in media and product PR; oncology/specialty/rare disease experience desirable
• Significant experience in pharmaceutical industry communications positions, and excellent understanding of Pharma communication and landscape regarding public, media, patient relations
• Experience in issues management, and proven record of managing crises through effective communication channels
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent persuasive ability
• Experience in overseeing global programs/teams
