Design and user experience (UX) are at the forefront of everything we do. The job of an Interaction Designer is to envision how people experience our products and bring that vision to life in a way that feels inspired, refined and even magical. In an Interaction Designer role, you’ll tackle complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use designs for billions of people around the world—from the first-time user to the sophisticated expert. Achieving this goal requires collaboration with teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers and Product Managers throughout the design process—from creating user flows and wireframes to building user interface mockups and prototypes. At each stage, you will anticipate what our users need, advocate for them and ensure that the final product surprises and delights them.

As a Art Director, you will use your creative skill and imagination to establish visual design that drives the team and overall projects. You can leverage successful design language and can improvise to achieve a wholly new look. You will work with concept artists, digital artists, designers, and engineers to establish the visual style and aesthetic that will leverage our next-generation VR and AR technologies.

The Google Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality team is a fast moving group of engineers, designers, and research scientists tasked with building the foundations for great immersive and augmented reality apps and prototyping novel, delightful user experiences. We are focused on making virtual reality accessible to millions of people through mobile devices, and its scope continues to grow and evolve.

Responsibilities
Establish and define the visual direction for various Google VR apps, platforms, and related projects from early concept exploration and through all phases of production to final execution.
Use your sense of lighting, color, form, and composition to guide a vision that is authentic and appropriate to the projects while still maintaining a consistent Daydream look and feel.
Research and source reference imagery that can steer early project development and create quick concept art when the need arises.
Work with internal and external vendors to create world-class work.
Maintain a good knowledge of film, games, and other graphic medium trends and technique. Evaluate competitive products and communicate artistic innovations.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience designing for brand and products.
Portfolio with examples of work, including concept art, production designs, storyboards and other visual images that demonstrate artistic goals in simple to follow visual images.

Preferred qualifications:
VR experience.
Familiarity with modern 3D graphic art production and industry standard art tools as well as high-level understanding of animation, modeling, rigging, environments, and other 3D asset productions.
Familiarity with game engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
Understanding the underlying concepts for tools and technology used to make art for VR/AR.
Ability to define and drive varied artistic styles from abstract to realistic with proven ability to create visually interesting 3D spaces.
Ability to thrive in a rapid-paced environment, working on multiple projects in a scrappy, start-up atmosphere.
