The Business Development Evaluation (BDE) group is part of the Strategy, Portfolio & Operations (SPCO) organization. BDE works across the Pfizer enterprise to analyze and value investment and partnership opportunities including mergers & acquisitions, in-licensing, out-licensing, international expansion, co-promotion, and R&D risk sharing.

Responsibilities

Our primary responsibility is to lead cross-functional teams through the process of building a business case and valuation for business/corporate development decisions:

• Partner with the transactions group to develop deal terms and refine the negotiation strategy
• Work with commercial teams to define patient benefits and build revenue opportunity models in the context of anticipated marketplace dynamics
• Work with the scientific teams to outline clinical development plans, and to establish R&D costs, timing, and technical feasibility
• Build deal P&Ls and calculate investment valuation metrics
• Facilitate an assessment of strategic fit within Pfizer’s overall R&D portfolio
• Participate in executive briefings in preparation for a decision to invest
• Develop company profiles for M&A opportunities, as needed

Since we are part of Pfizer’s Strategy, Portfolio, & Commercial Operations organization, we also contribute to the design and implementation of analytical process and methodology to facilitate and guide decisions related to corporate strategy formulation, resource allocation, risk management, and portfolio optimization.

In this role the colleague will serve as a member of the BDE Generalist team. In addition, this colleague will be the BDE liaison to more than one business segment and be the first point of contact for Worldwide Business Development colleagues working on deals in the respective business units mapped to this role. This colleague will be responsible for scoping out projects and coordinating their completion from the BDE perspective.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in business or medicine/science
• At least 8 years experience in, management consulting, investment banking, business/corporate development or sell-side equity research
• Experience in healthcare required; experience in biopharmaceuticals preferred
• Ability to synthesize a significant amount of diverse information to build a compelling, data driven investment case
• Excellent Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Proficiency in expected discounted cash flow modeling, understanding of economic value measures, and other types of analytical modeling (e.g. Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to lead multiple complex assignments requiring integration of multiple disciplines
• Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills
