This is a job for someone who is not afraid. Not afraid of Facebook or SnapChat, small screens or low attention spans, fickle audiences or powerful aggregators. This job is for someone who believes in ambitious, wow-inspiring, needle-moving content and user experiences.
The job is a product owner to lead mobile products for our all NBC News brands, reporting to the VP of Product. To succeed, you need the heart of an entrepreneur coupled with the finesse and seaworthiness to navigate a big newsroom, inside a big org, inside a big company with a brand so iconic it is literally etched in gold in the huge granite pillars that flank the entrance to the building.

To succeed even more, you will deeply understand what it takes to convert a fickle audience into loyal fans, with not a lot of screen real estate to work with. From storytelling to user context and device capabilities, you obsess (in a way that annoys your friends and family) over creating mind-blowing mobile experiences that will, well, blow our customers’ minds.

Your Mission Includes:
Pioneering new ideas. Don’t accept the current state of news on mobile. Change is constant, inevitable and good! Make the change, don’t be a victim of it.
Taking our mobile products and the teams that support them to new heights. You can do it!
Ensure that your teams and products are always in the best health. If something is no one’s job, then it’s your job.
Foster an agile way of working, not for the sake of a fervent belief in a methodology, but because it will deliver outstanding results.
Measure everything, figure out what the data means, explain it to everyone, change things accordingly. Rinse. Repeat.
Solving the unsolvable. The CMS doesn’t support mobile curation? You build it. The video player doesn’t play in-line or vertical? You hack it. There’s no one to send push alerts on Sunday nights? You train the HK editor. (Have we mentioned that you’re the product owner?)
Sitting with editorial and help to reinvent how we tell stories that work on this platform.
Surprising audiences, advertisers and partners...but in a good way. Build a loyal following for our mobile products and work with sales the find the right way to monetize them.
Qualifications/Requirements To Get the Gig, Show Us That You:
Have managed and delivered amazing mobile products at a publisher or platform for at least 5 years.
Experience building a video publisher or platform from the ground up.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Designer, Developer, Editor, or Entrepreneur in digital products.
Must have Bachelor's degree
