Amazon.com is seeking a highly intelligent, seasoned executive with established credibility in book publishing or book selling to lead Amazon’s Kindle and Print Books Editorial Team. This leader will be responsible for developing the vision for furthering Amazon’s position as a world-class bookseller and leading a team of Editors in the execution of that strategy. The Director of Editorial is responsible for the end-to-end Editorial vision for Amazon.com Books and the production, curation, and delivery of the Amazon Book Review. He or she must have deep experience interviewing high profile authors and celebrities, and reviewing and creating compelling book content across all genres of books, from nonfiction and literary fiction to romance, cookbooks, and science fiction.

The Director of Editorial works closely with publishers, authors, agents, and the press to represent Amazon’s flagship Book business and its commitment to ensuring Amazon customers have a best-in-class book experience. A successful candidate will demonstrate leadership in working with multiple internal teams across Amazon’s many Book businesses as well as developing strong external relationships in the publishing industry. This role is located in New York.

What You’ll Do:
· Vision and Strategy: Develop a multi-year vision for Amazon.com’s Editorial voice. The strategy will incorporate existing Amazon Editorial programs and include the design of new ones to drive customer engagement and discovery of books in all formats. The leader will use qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the success of these programs and incorporate metrics on book sales and customer segments, shifting patterns in customer shopping and online behavior, industry and competitive trends, to build the roadmap for how Amazon communicates about books with customers, authors, illustrators, publishers, and the media.

· Drive Customer Engagement: This leader will develop new leveraged innovative models for connecting with customers, helping customers connect with content creators, stimulating customer engagement with Amazon, identifying new and emerging sub-genres of books to introduce customers to, and constantly seeking new ways to use metrics and data to increase the likelihood of success.

· Leadership: Actively participate as a member of the Books leadership team, setting strategy, driving recruitment, career development, and mentorship of team.

· Communications: Develop communications strategies that elevate Amazon Books’ visibility as a prestigious, high value, trusted bookseller. Oversee the Editorial team’s representation in print, television, and online media as well as the Amazon Book Review, public forums, and social media. Develop short and long term plans and budgets for communication.

The Amazon.com Books team interacts with over 100 million customers, 40 million print and Kindle books, across thousands of publishers at any given time. As book format options continue to evolve and book publishing options evolve for writers, customers look to Amazon to help them navigate the myriad books available and to find the exact book they are looking for. The Director of Editorial plays a critical role in connecting customers with books. The Director of Editorial and his or her team are responsible for an Editorial vision that touches millions of customers and billions of revenue per year.


Basic Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree is required
8+ years of relevant book or publishing experience
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to drive innovative, results-oriented programs
Editorial credibility with readers, content providers, and media
Proven experience using data to drive decisions
Passion for uniting customers with books
Proven ability to manage, develop, and retain a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment
Existing relationships with media, top authors, and publishers

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience creating high profile Book content and is considered an influencer by readers, writers, and their peers:
Strong sense of brand and editorial voice; the ability to harmonize messages across multiple channels and vehicles
Creative, forward thinking leader with proven ability to innovate
Experienced public speaker – including television, print media, and industry panels
Experience in leveraging, influencing, navigating, and building partnerships and relationships across internal and external teams; successful work with outside agencies a plus
Degree in Journalism is a benefit
