This position is responsible for providing the people, processes and tools to meet the current and future Aerodynamics, Performance and Propulsion Department (AP&P) needs of the Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) within Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS). AP&P covers the following disciplines and subordinate skills: Aerodynamic Design and Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Air Vehicle Performance and Sizing, Air-Breathing Propulsion Inlet and Exhaust Design and Engine Performance and Integration.

The Director of AP&P shall execute the following charter: Provide the technical and people leadership needed to establish and maintain a World class AP&P organization across multiple locations and programs. Manage capital assets and indirect budgets required for the AP&P disciplines to perform their IPT statements of work. Provide functional oversight for AP&P across NGAS including independent technical reviews of major IPTs. Establish and maintain the AP&P - specific processes and design manuals for NGAS programs. Facilitate and promote Affordability, Knowledge Management, and other process improvement initiatives including the instantiation of metrics covering engineering efficiency and quality, as well as sharing of lessons learned and best practices throughout the organization. Promote consistency across the organization, IPTs, R&T, and Advanced Systems in using common tools

This position is located in El Segundo / Manhattan Beach California. Relocation assistance may be available.

Travel is required at an average of one coast-to-coast trip per month, typically a 4 to 5 day trip for departmental and technical coordination, with an additional once per month, several day trip to Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited institution
10 years of strong technical credentials in some combination of Aircraft Configuration, Mass Properties and Loads and Dynamics disciplines, with broad knowledge across all the AD&CE disciplines under this position
Strong People and Technical Leadership Skills; Experience leading a team of > 20 employees
Knowledge of Staffing, Metrics and Training
Must have proven technical management experience preferably in either program IPT, Advanced Systems, technology, and/or functional environments
Must have experience effectively leading diverse technical teams across multiple locations
Ability to obtain and retain a D.O.D. Top Secret Clearance with SSBI is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
Active D.O.D. Top Secret Clearance with SSBI
Possess technical discipline credibility to provide “backstop” support to programs as required on behalf of team members
Extensive technical knowledge and experience in several of the following skill areas:
Aircraft Conceptual Design
Aerodynamic Design and Analysis
Computational Fluid Dynamics
Vehicle Performance and sizing
Stability and Control
Inlet System Design and Analysis
Exhaust System Design and integration
Engine Interface and Installation
