The Director reports to the Managing Director of the Natural Resource platform. This platform consists of holdings in upstream Exploration & Production, oil and gas mineral rights, and certain other energy-related investments. The platform is expanding and is seeking additional resources to support the current portfolio and underwrite new investments. New investments may be made in oil & gas, timber, agriculture or natural resource sub-sectors.
Partnering with Devonshire Investors business units and operating companies, as well as functional groups including accounting, treasury, tax, legal and business development, the Director will support Devonshire Investors natural resources investment group in portfolio oversight, new investment diligence and portfolio reporting.
Primary responsibilities will include: (1) portfolio management and reporting, including performance analytics, operational oversight and governance support, (2) financial modeling, valuation and ad hoc quantitative analysis, (3) industry research, and (4) partner with tax, accounting, finance, legal, risk and compliance functions.
Specific experience in upstream oil & gas is not required, but prior experience in natural resources is strongly preferred.

Primary responsibilities
Portfolio Management
Coordinate with portfolio company management to gather and summarize financial plans, operating forecasts, and equity/debt funding requirements.
Run investment returns for existing portfolio.
Support portfolio companies’ Board of Directors on ad hoc analyses.
Financial Analysis, Valuation and Reporting
Lead valuation of existing holdings and provide recommendation to firm-wide valuation committee.
Support underwriting and analysis of new investment activities including valuation, investment returns and cash flows; assess impact of capital structures, financing and tax strategies.
Prepare executive presentations.

Industry Research
Monitor market developments, peer/competitor activity and industry news.
Conduct industry analysis to inform additional investments in natural resources platform.
Functional liaison
Coordinate with internal and external colleagues in with tax, accounting, finance, legal, risk, human resources and compliance functions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, with progress toward CFA preferred
3-6 years as analyst/associate at a private equity firm, asset manager, or endowment/foundation with direct investment platform
Familiarity with the natural resources investment sector (upstream Oil & Gas, midstream, timber, agriculture etc.)
Skills and Knowledge
The ability to interact with portfolio companies and investment partners
Solid analytical and quantitative skills
Strong conceptual skills and ability to envision the “big picture” while maintaining close attention to detail
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
Intelligent, analytical, collaborative, self-aware, confident and comfortable with ambiguity
Flexibility for occasional travel
BA/BS degree with progress towards CFA or intention to attend graduate school
Ability to travel 20-25% of time
