The Senior Director will be a member of the Global Merchant organization, reporting to the VP of Merchant Strategy. This global team is dedicated to identifying trends and defining critical initiatives for Visa’s business with merchants and acquirer partners. The position will be based in San Francisco.
Core responsibilities will include independently leading strategy development projects or project modules end-to-end – project definition and scoping, fact base development, analytics and research, recommendation development, and implementation support

Monitoring merchant and acquirer feedback through external sources and account executive feedback
Identifying trends and opportunities and ensuring external discipline in sales and solutions processes
Campaign strategies and complex negotiation support
Prospect merchant segment innovation identifying startups and other innovators for additional partnership and business development activity
This role will work collaboratively and directly with key leaders across Visa, including: Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Merchant Sales team, Analytics, and other product teams.
Responsibilities:
- Support the overall Merchant Sales & Solution strategy development and execution in partnership with the sales and solutions teams. Structure and solve business problems, collaborating and coordinating with a range of internal stakeholders to make recommendations on a wide range of business issues. Build out unique, creative and impactful solutions by integrating insights across Visa’s many expert functional resources and supporting collaborative solution development.
- Develop rigorous, fact based, quantitative analysis to support recommendations. Ensure strategic and financial soundness and alignment for any recommendations
- Work closely with cross-functional and regional management teams on strategic projects, bringing timely and useful insight and analytical support
- Develop clear and concise executive level communications. Communicate recommendations to senior management, other executive, functional, or regional staff and management in a clear, concise and impactful way
- Develop research, lead interviews, analysis and financial modeling, framework and presentation development, and presentation of insights and recommendations to a variety of stakeholders. Perform pro forma economic/financial and business analysis to ensure a fundamental understanding of marketplace economic, competitive and industry drivers, both current and prospective.
- This role requires effective interaction with Visa teams including communicating and generating support for recommendations, incorporating feedback and facilitating the path from recommendation to tangible results oriented impacts.
Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree, MBA or relevant graduate degree from top-tier institution or similar academic / professional experience
-Typically requires 15+ years’ experience with 5+ years’ experience in management consulting or strategy function preferred
-Customer focus and in depth understanding of global trends affecting merchants and payments. Experience in and/or significant exposure to the payments industry or retail strategy experience preferred
-Ability to independently lead and manage projects with multiple workstreams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of functional business problems
-Ability to structure and manage complex cross-enterprise projects and processes with multiple stakeholders at both senior and junior levels
-Superior analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor, attention to detail and ability to structure and analyze sophisticated financial modeling. Effective at building insights from research, data collection and analysis
-Personal presence and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers and external business partners
-Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to influence and build credibility as a "peer" with functional and regional leaders within Visa
-Ability to prioritize deliverables and projects to meet timelines efficiently, to adapt to changes in priorities quickly
-Self-starter, team oriented, collaborative, diplomatic, and flexible, with excellent presentation skills, including strong oral and writing capabilities
