The Core Mobile team is reinventing how American Express develops software products. We are responsible for the American Express flagship iOS and Android apps used by millions of card members everyday to manage their transaction activity, pay their bill, reap the benefits of membership rewards, and protect their account through sophisticated real-time fraud alerts. This Director will lead the development of mobile app capabilities as part of a distributed team with offices in New York, Phoenix, and Palo Alto



We Are Looking For An Experienced Leader Who Will
Lead teams in iterative product development using lean principles
Build and lead a high-performance team of software engineers
Bring a strong technical foundation; able to engage the team on architecture and design, and get under the hood of complex architectures, systems, and interface design
Collaborate successfully with product, designers, and a broad set of internal technical partners (across multiple internal groups)
Demonstrate accountability while leading people with passion, enthusiasm, loyalty and integrity. Own and lead HR processes such as performance reviews, talent development, etc.
Consistently question assumptions, challenge the status quo, and push for improvement
Never settle for being “good enough”

Qualifications
Extensive background in software product engineering and computer science
Flawless interpersonal skills and ability to partner with executive leadership to push technical solutions forward
Proven ability to recruit top talent with technical skills, growth potential, design sensibility, and emotional intelligence
Passion, energy, personal accountability, and a desire to lead others to excellence
Proven track record of influence leadership and building high-performance self-managing teams
Ability to build and leverage strong relationships with business and technology partners
Proven track record in driving strategic change in tools and process
Design sensibility and understanding of UX and API development is a must
Track record of successful app delivery to the Apple App Store and/or Google Play
Deep appreciation for the importance of elegant solutions to technical challenges
