ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for management of the global strategic sourcing and external partnership operations for Research functions including Toxicology/Drug Disposition, Discovery Chemistry, Endo/CV Research, Neuroscience Research, Oncology Research, Biotech Research and Tailored Therapeutics. External partnerships managed by this function include fee for service (research and development) including insourced work, shared risk including IP acquisition, academic partnerships and public private partnerships.
The Strategic Sourcing/External Partnership group is dedicated to engaging with and supporting the Research organization and external partners by listening to and understanding the needs of customers while providing: a consistent, value-added source of authority for trustworthy, professional consultation and collaborative partnering. This will enable and provide continuous improvement for the timely, efficient, and cost-effective management of research external partnerships to facilitate the strategic and responsible implementation of Research – which includes making difficult trade-off decisions. The team partners with internal and external colleagues to help them do their jobs more efficiently, effectively, and in a compliant and responsible manner, which in turn helps the company innovate, execute and manage key Research processes and systems, mitigate risk, manage money, and save money. Oversight of this team defines and governs processes, procedures & policies, systems, and roles and responsibilities for strategic assessment and management of Research external partnerships. Successful execution of this role will include building relationships with and influence of Research leadership. The position also works cross-functionally with leaders from Procurement, Finance, Quality, Protect Lilly, Compliance, MDU, Legal, 6 Sigma, Business Development and other teams within LRL Operations, and various corporate/global groups as needed. This position reports to the Senior Director of LRL Operations.
Key Objectives/Deliverables
Effective and compliant management of global external partnerships including fee for R&D service including insourced work, shared risk (IP acquisition), academic and public private partnerships
Develops and executes strategic plans for external partnership management
Provides implementation and continuous improvement of timely, efficient, cost effective management plans for external partnerships
Manages the function that provides life cycle management of partnerships through all phases of collaboration including deal design, due diligence, contracting support, alliance management, ongoing implementation, risk assessment, performance metrics
Provides strategic input to research leadership and operational support (resource and financial) in management of external research
Builds strong relationships with and influences Research leadership
Works cross functionally with leaders from LRL Operations, Procurement, Finance Quality, Protect Lilly, Compliance, MDU, Legal Six Sigma, Business Development
Manages and coaches a team of managers, consultants and external business support
Works effectively across LRL operations seeking synergies and coordinating business operations support
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
5 or more years experience in managing external partnerships
5 or more years experience in pharma research and/or development
3 or more years experience of supervisory experience
Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent experience

Additional Skills/Preferences
Scientific/Engineering Advanced degree strongly preferred
Project management experience and alliance management experience
Significant experience in a scientific setting
Good communication and presentation skills

A proven ability to engage the support of and influence senior executives
