Job description

This role is responsible for the Informatics development staff within the Point of Care Business Unit of Siemens Diagnostics. This individual will hire, develop, and maintain the staff of requirements engineers, software developers, and software testers necessary to support the project work assigned to the group. This person will define the optimum organizational structure for the group and will be able to manage the local team as well as development teams from abroad. The project work pertains to point of care diagnostics informatics and associated interfaces & support systems to enable our POC ecosystem vision. This position and the core group are located at the Edgewater site in Norwood, MA. The group size may vary, but is typically 15-20 people including a small group operating from a remote site.
This role is expected to serve as the lead technical authority for the group and to insure that staff skills, practices, processes, and tools specific to informatics development are adequate and will result in quality work and outcomes. This team operates using an Agile development model, so knowledge of and experience with Agile is required. This individual will periodically participate in technical reviews for project milestones within the product development process. Oversight of technical progress on all projects is expected as often as is needed to insure that redirection takes place when needed and without significant project delays.
This individual participates as needed on cross-functional, strategic teams that define and plan technology direction and portfolio direction. This individual should be able to serve in a project management capacity when needed to represent the function on a development core team. This role is responsible for the departmental budget, staff development, and performance management.
This person sets an example and defines the behaviors and initiatives needed to establish and maintain a customer focused and collaborative culture.
As the lead for a group of employees, this person insures that appropriate business communications are cascaded to the employees via regular staff meetings, group communication meetings, and e-mail.
Desired Skills and Experience
Education:
BS or BA in Software Engineering, Computer Sciences, or an alternate science or engineering discipline. Advanced degree is a plus.
Knowledge:
Understanding of the software development process, particularly the Agile process, is important.
Knowledge of POC medical diagnostic instrumentation systems is helpful.
Familiarity with hospital point of care settings and the connectivity/informatics needs of users in those settings is a plus.
Knowledge of POCT-1A, HL-7, and other communications standards is a plus.
Understanding of approaches to work breakdown, prioritization, resource allocation, problem solving, decision making, and influencing is valuable.
Experience:
Typically, 10 plus years in the software development field is needed. Experience within the medical device development field is a plus.
Prior management of multiple technical professionals is required.
Experience in managing software development efforts in an Agile development process is required.
Experience in managing remote teams is a plus.
