Job Summary:
REI seeks a Director of Equipment Manufacturing Engineering with proven leadership skills and a “hands-on” management approach to lead initiatives that support lean operations and optimization of equipment manufacturing plans, methods and processes in our Tustin, CA facilities. The Equipment Manufacturing Engineering Director will also guide the development of engineering, professional and other technical staff.
Responsibilities:
Directs the development and implementation of new processes and equipment. Monitors installation and testing. Evaluates results and determines that processes and equipment function properly for turnover to production. Leads engineering initiatives to improve process yields, and minimize equipment failure, downtime and injuries.
Develops, recommends and implements production layout, process and equipment engineering plans to execute our lean manufacturing initiatives.
Directs managers, professionals, support and hourly personnel engaged in production assembly line layout; production workflow and process design; process and equipment problem analysis.
Gives direction on applying methods and procedures and executing new work assignments.
Sets performance standards
Leads by example in prioritizing safety, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, and ownership
Trains and coaches for development
Conducts and approves performance appraisals
Recommends personnel actions such as promotion, transfer, discipline, hire, and termination
Prioritizes a safety culture. Recommends corrective/preventive actions and monitors their implementation.
(Duplicate of second bullet above)Directs the investigation and resolution of process failures and equipment-related problems. Reviews and approves reports outlining production issues and recommending countermeasures.
Plans and directs the maintenance and repair of production and test equipment. Directs the development and implementation of preventive maintenance schedules and procedures, and monitors compliance to established plans and methods. Selects and negotiates agreements with vendors for outsourced maintenance and repair services.
Frequently interacts with management and staff in internal operational and administrative departments. Periodically communicates with vendors, customers and other Ricoh Group companies to resolve issues with product quality, process, or new product introduction. Serves as liaison between the engineering department and other departments of the production division to ensure that the manufacture of products meets functional requirements at the lowest possible cost.
Desired Skills and Experience
B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering
A minimum of 8 years experience working in manufacturing engineering, with strong knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing.
A minimum of 5 years management experience required, with experience managing engineers and professional staff.
Facility layout planning and execution experience for heavy industrial equipment required. Experience with ergonomics in workspace planning and design, highly preferred.
Thorough knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology to the production and assembly of various goods, including sheet metal, plastic injection molding, etc.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, presentation and human relations skills
Demonstrated strategic and operational thinking skills
Large project and program management experience
Must have advanced skills in MS Excel and be proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD or other drawing software applications.
Master’s degree in Business or Engineering preferred.
Six Sigma Black Belt and/or Lean Expert preferred.
