Director - Specialized Commercial Operations - Santander Bank - Boston


Job description
The Commercial Operations Group provides operational execution and control for the commercial banking business lines, and delivers specialized commercial banking support functions.
The Director of Specialized Commercial Operations (SCO) is responsible to:
Analyze business line and Operations requirements, existing organization, staffing, systems and methods to propose a medium term restructure to achieve superior, sustainable service levels and regulatory compliance.
Manage teams responsible for operational execution of specialized commercial transactions including:
International trade (Import/Export Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, Standby Letters of Credit, Banker Acceptances).
Complex loans (syndications, participations, multi-currency, supply chain).
Develop and continually improve financial, operational, data and compliance controls encompassing all transactions within SCO
Develop policy, procedure, and detailed process maps for all SCO activities to ensure proper execution within SCO and in alignment with the business lines being supported.

Develop and continually improve Key Performance Measures to report and analyze service levels and operational efficiency of the operations teams.
Establish relationship with the key business leaders and operational partners in the business lines being supported.
Establish a formal governance process with operational partners in the business, IT, Compliance, Audit and Risk.
Develop and execute training programs to continually improve the capability of the operational teams in the complex transaction they execute.
Present to executive management in Technology & Operations, and the business lines regular updates, ad-hoc issue status, and proposals for new or changed methods.
Organizational development - analyze organizational effectiveness.
Staff development - improve staff competency, career path and satisfaction.
Technology analysis (in conjunction with IT) - propose and support IT investments.
Controls/Compliance management - analyze and improve controls and control reporting.
Management reporting - Develop, improve, present management information.
Relationship building - Maintain relationships with business lines and partners.
Budget management - Manage all activities within budget.
Change management - Guide teams through required change.

Desired Skills and Experience
BA / BS Degree, Masters preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience (5 in IT environment).
Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, global banking products and operational execution.
Extensive technical knowledge of systems supporting global banking products and operational execution.
Knowledge of financial, operational, data and compliance control methods and management.
Knowledge of, and experience in managing, relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
Ability to manage multiple (regional) locations and to travel extensively to those locations.
