Director - Development Health Affairs - Quinnipiac University - New York


Job description
Quinnipiac University Development and Alumni Affairs Office is seeking an accomplished professional to join our Health Affairs fund raising team as a Director of Development for the School of Nursing and School of Health Sciences at the Center for Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences on our beautiful North Haven campus.

The Director of Development works closely with the AVP for Health Affairs Development and the Deans of the Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences on engagement of high potential prospects for support of the Schools' priority funding objectives. The Senior Director will establish and manage relationships with an active portfolio of 150 high potential gift prospects on behalf of philanthropic support for both of the Schools and other interprofessional health initiatives as assigned. Portfolio prospects will include individuals, corporations and foundations with heavy emphasis on individuals and on gift capacity of $25K or more.

Specific Responsibilities:

Designs and implements comprehensive fundraising plans for the Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences that will secure funds for identified priorities and strategic initiatives.


Develops and manages a portfolio of 150-200 prospects with a rating of at least $25,000.

Conducts 125 face-to-face visits/substantial contacts per year.

Develops effective relationships with and engages Deans and key faculty in fundraising.

Works closely with Deans and AVP for Health Affairs Development to provide strategic guidance, recruitment strategies and staff support for the SON and SHS advisory committees.

Provides timely reports to AVP for Health Affairs Development, as needed.

Works collaboratively with colleagues in Development & Alumni Affairs to maximize support from alumni, parents, corporations and foundations; to increase the number of annual and planned gifts; and to maximize engagement by major gift prospects and donors in University events and activities.

Manages and mentors shared administrative assistant.

Performs other responsibilities upon request, as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelors degree required (master’s degree preferred) in nursing, health sciences, marketing, public relations, business or a related field and 5 years of fund raising experience with a proven track record in major gift fund raising from individual, corporate, and foundation sources. Experience in a medical and/or university health sciences center is highly desirable. Strong written, verbal, organization, and interpersonal skills are required. Successful candidates will be self-motivated and possess the ability to work as a team member within a complex organization requiring collaboration, teamwork and communication. Significant travel is required as the position requires personal, face-to-face contact with donors and prospective donors.
