Director - Data Science - Connections of New York - New York

Job Description:
A Director-level candidate is being sought after to guide the data science initiatives for a highly-regarded team, in addition to being involved with identifying new strategic and growth opportunities beyond the team’s current scope. This person will be the leader and primary advocate for driving these new opportunities, as well as for scaling-up existing projects. The team is made up of data scientists and big data engineers who have built a consumer-oriented, predictive analytics platform and recommendation engine using Python, R, NoSQL, and Hadoop technologies. This is very much a hands-on, technical role where you will be modeling, coding, and analyzing big data environments along with your team.


Responsibilities:
Be involved with statistical modeling and algorithmic development
Employ machine learning and predictive analytics techniques
Improve processes for implementation and continued deployment of existing platforms
Bring new ideas and vision for new opportunities in the data science domain
Spearhead new projects from inception to production

Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements:
MS or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or similar area
Statistical modeling with packages like R, SAS, Matlab
Programming skills with Python, or Java or C++
Familiarity with working in NoSQL environments (MongoDB)
Experience with production-level Hadoop (MapReduce, Hive, Hbase, Pig, etc…)
Ability to operate in a technical and analytical leadership capacity
