Senior Director, Revenue Accounting Operations

This position reports to the Chief Accounting Officer, is able to multi-task and is responsible for the company’s global deal desk, revenue accounting operations, revenue recognition processes, and revenue reporting. The position includes ownership of worldwide deal desk relationships with the sales organization, management of all revenue related reporting and monthly revenue accounting close, assistance with calculating and reporting commissions, and accounts receivable. The Sr. Director manages a team of 6-8 people and will be the right hand revenue resource for the Chief Accounting Officer.

We are looking for a high-energy, hands-on individual that has the ability to work independently providing advanced technical accounting expertise in support of the Company’s strategic initiatives and new business growth, a “can-do” attitude that thrives on building processes and driving change, with public company experience.

Responsibilities include:

Works collaboratively with sales, legal, sales operations and order management in developing deal structure for appropriate revenue recognition and corporate strategy and processing orders to ensure proper revenue recognition treatment
Analyzes contract agreements to ensure proper revenue recognition compliance
Supports VSOE analysis and process
Research and advise on changes in accounting literature primarily focused on ASC 985-605 (SOP 97-2 and related TPAs), EITFs, etc. under GAAP
Research and review technical revenue accounting memos that addresses the issues, and provide analysis and conclusions related to various customer arrangements
Liaison with external auditors regarding revenue. Builds effective working relations with other departments and operations as appropriate, including Sales, Finance, Tax, Legal, Operations and within the Corporate Accounting organization
Works closely with commissions team for deals with deferred revenue/commission impact
Review and improve full Order to Cash cycle, working with AR and OM
Documents accounting conclusions related to revenue transactions
Ensures revenue accounting policies are documented and applied consistently on a worldwide basis
Ensures that internal controls are effective and efficient
Ownership of monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue reporting in multiple forms, including analytic analysis with that of a public company
Interacts with senior executives and board regarding financial matters as needed
Maintains effective cost controls for areas of responsibility
Develop and deliver software revenue recognition education to financial and sales internal stakeholders; drive widespread management awareness/understanding
Hiring, training, developing and mentoring the deal desk and revenue team

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
MBA and/or CPA preferred.

Required Skills & Experience:

Software revenue recognition experience is required within a public company. Prefer 8+ years
12+ years of business experience, including significant management and technology industry experience; SaaS or software experience required
Able to work cross-functionally, listen to the needs of sales and operations organization, research and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues in a clear and simplified manner, present findings and recommendations in both oral and written memos/presentations
Experience with Oracle ERP system environment, Salesforce.com and RevStream or other revenue system
Strong leadership skills and high degree of business and technical proficiency and judgment are essential
Strategic thinking and leadership experience with an emphasis on relationship management and communication at all levels within an organization.
